My First Flight On A Delta 737-800 From DFW-SFO

Fri Jun 22, 2001 8:52 am

My flight left at 10:05 in the morning at DFW. It was definitly not my first flight, but it was my first time to fly on a 737-800. I was seated in 2C and enjoyed the morning sky as we taxied down the tarmac to the runway. It took off like a charm and is a great very quiet plane (compared to the old 727-200 I rode back on!!). Delta's 737-800 had a knew like GPS system on board and I had never seen anything like it before. It tracked where we were flying the speed, elevation, outside tmperature, even the head wind speed!! A movie was shown and the technology was great. This plane has to be the best plane I have ever flown on behind a 767-300!!

Actually, DL's 738s are the most uncomfortable aircraft in the fleet, right ahead of the MD88s.

747, what do you base that statement on? I have never flown Delta, so I am interested in why you think the 738 is so uncomfortable.

I have heard (recently) that their MD-90-30s are very uncomfortable as well. That makes me glad I didn't take them DFW-DCA this time around, I had considered it.

But why are they uncomfortable? Bad seat design? Bad pitch??

I've had 3 flights on the Delta 738s in the last month, and quite frankly each was worse than the next. Let me list the reasons.

a) Seat pitch in coach is pathetic on any DL aircraft, but the 738 just seems tighter. Maybe its the drab colorscheme.

b) That horrible non-porous thin seat. On a longer flight, you sweat your a$$ off. Literally.

c) Those annoying flip-down screens. It is impossible to sleep with those things flickering a few feet away.

In contrast, I enjoyed my one and only MD90 flight earlier this year. The IFE system was broken, so I didn't have to deal with the screens, but alas that meant that GTE Airfone system was also dead. However, I'll make that trade any day of the week.

The 738 in Shuttle configuration is a lot nicer. The seat pitch is an almost comfortable 34", so even a middle seat is bearable.

All i have to say iis that my experiences with Delta Airlines were not that great.
1) I dont like waiting an hour in the check in line at pdx.
2) we entered the ac and there it was the most horrible coach i could imagine. First the room between the seat butt cushion and the seat infront of me was about eight inches. Hey i am 5 foot 7 and it was truly and i mean truly uncomfortable. but then again a 737-300 or 500 cant remember had something like 27 seven rows that is way to much. And besides that the seat was only 16-17 in wide. On top of that food service sucked and there was no audio devices ethier. And it was obislly not redisinged with there nnnew 19997 look. flights were all delayed slightly . the one goood thing about delts is there skywest division crj jets wich i could easily cross my legs . and thay had leather seats. I will never ever take delts again.............. BRIAN

I have taken Delta a few times and their seats/seat pitch/legroom is less then desireable. It is when you REALLY appreciate AA's MRTC is when you fly Delta right afterwords. I was on a delta flight to colorado(i think denver, i forgot) and then due to a mechanical problem in Atlanta, the flight was cancled so we flew home on my favorite airline, American. We flew Delta because it was cheaper. Delta paid for the ticket.

My first flight on the Delta 737-800 was from LGA to Baltimore, MD. It was a nice plane, and very quiet with comfortable seating arrangements.
