ATL-PNS Afternoon Summer T'storms

Fri Jun 29, 2001 12:16 pm

Typical Summer afternoon T'storm while flying into PNS on a Delta MD83, but this time it was a lot cooler. We were coming in, and I knew that it was gonna be a bumpy ride. This guy in front of me obviously saw the huge white clouds, and the darness below them, and actually asked a flight attendant if we were flying into them. She said not to worry. Anyway, we start flying into these really tall clouds while descending, and there was lightning all around the plane (luckily, but maybe unfortunately cause it woulda been cool) lightning didn't hit the plane. Rain was heavy and there was some pretty good turbulence in the clouds. It was just a sight to see. The plane was failry empty and really cold. And the quietness and darkness made it a great experience.

Was anything served on this flight? I know ATL-PNS is a rather short flight. Probaly the Fastbreak Service and Snack Mix.

I have encountered these type of storms while approaching MSY before. It can get bumpy, but this is a thing of landing in the South.

yep... that was it.. with a choice of lemonade, juice or water. I hate Delta's snack mix. I liked the pretzels and peanuts by themselves. What ever happened to them???

Good question! They used to offer peanuts on their flights. They offer Biscoffs in F/C only, but on Delta Connection they offer them in "Commuter Class" my name for the coach cabin on those jets (And props)

Hi,
I live in Pensacola and I think I know the day you were talking about. We haven't had rain in awhile so we have been getting these bad storms lately. Typically the flights into pns from atl last about 45-50. It is funny, but I always end up on the 727-2 which is a great plane to fly on. You are right though, the food service on this segment sucks. I wish they could at least give people some coke or something, but I always end up just getting the lemonade. As for the peanut thing, they found that people were alergic to them and after a lawsuit, they no longer offer them as a snack, but normally you can ask for them and they have some in the back.

I agree. Delta should at least offer Coke Products. They got time to serve them inflight.

Nice catch Super80, I was just going to say that. When I flew into ATL on a UA A320, we encountered t-storms AFTER our arrival. However, delays ensued as departures were held. This procedure jammed the taxiways and we were stuck on taxiway E, short of ramp 3 for half an hour. I took the opportunity to snap some pictures but let's just say that the rest of the passengers weren't so happy!

Not to be superstitious or anything, but isn't PNS the only city where Delta's had a fatal MD-88 crash? Just a thought... Also, though I've never been on this route, I know Delta serves soft drinks on select (eg. high traffic, mealtime, etc.) short flights, since I've been given Coke on a JAN-ATL flight before, and it's about the same distance (50 min). Btw, one quick question for Jcxp15: Do you just dislike Delta's snack mix, or do you just not like any snack mix? Just wondering, since as far as I know, it's exactly the same as the Chex Mix I buy here in Jackson.

well I will answer my opinion of it. I actually really enjoy the snack mix. My personal fav is peanuts, but this is a nice alternative to it. Many people seem to favor it more than the traditional peanuts, but they don't even really offer peanuts anymore. I do find it is a lot like the kind of chex mix you can get in the store  Smile

Well, I certainly have had better. I don't completely dislike it. It's food and I eat it, but I would rather have peanuts instead.
