Singapore EWR-AMS

Sat Jul 07, 2001 6:32 am

On June 24th I started my trip to Europe for a 11 day trip. We went on Singapore Airlines flight 23 on the way over from Newark Intl. We were set to leave at 10:30. Apon arriving we waited in the checkout line for about an hour (being a bit too early) I was travelign with 3 others and I requested a window seat or at least a seat that wasn't in the middle row. They explained to me that the flight as usual was full but they tried and actaully managed to move a few people and get my sister and I each window seats (Good first impression). We waited a bit around the International gates for our plane to arrive. It arrived on time and we boarded around 10:00 or so. Once on we were served a drink and also an "emenity kit" (socks and a toothbrush with toothpaste) the Toothbrush made sence but I didn't quite get the point of the socks. We departed on time surprisingly out of EWR and climbed to 39,000 meters (everything being in metric units which would be around 42,000ft? maybe?) Anyway at 12:00am we were served dinner, some kind of chicken with veggies and normal drinks. Pretty impressed with the service. i did ask to go into the cockpit knowing that they dont usually allow visits, the stewardess said she would ask the pilots but I don't think she got aroudn to doing it, not a big deal however. the flight was smooth except for one area of rather severe turbulence which really shook the passengers up, I knew that the 747-400 could handel 10X as much but still. Other than that tho the flight was smooth and we landed in AMS 6 hours and change after we left EWR. On the way back we were delayed because the Weight and Balance papers were taking longer then expected (so the captain said) We left shortly after and had a very smooth flight home. i enjoyed the PTV's that we had with their selcetion of movies, being 17 I also played some games just for the sake of it. The flight even tho being an hour longer on the way back (head wind of 101kmh) went by pretty quickly and the serveice was just as good. We landed and were directed straight to customs. I was very ahppywith this airline as many people are and I totally recomend them to anyone flying over seas to wherever SQ serves.

The socks are handy when you want to remove your shoes. You put the socks on top of your socks, hence whenever you go to the lavatory you don't have to worry that your socks will get dirty from urine stains etc.

you must have been mistaken 39,000 meters is way the hell up there. plus 39,000 feet is the highest commerical flights are allowed to cruise at if i am not mistaken. didnt you just love the flight attendants on SQ?!? they are just amazing! especially for teens such as us! they make the flights that much better, as with cathay pacific's flight attendants! its a shame you didnt get into the flight deck on that 744, take offs and landings are just a ball, nothing compared to what i am flying in flight school, but hey im on the right track! good to know you enjoyed SIA!

I and I'm sure Singapore Ailrlines are very happy to hear that you had a pleasant flight with them, and I and I'm sure they do as well, hope that you will be on board an SIA flight soon. Wonderful!

39,000 feet is not the highest I've cruised many times at 41,000 feet on CO 777's. They can fly at any height within the aircraft's Maximum Service Ceiling.

AFAIK, Lears & Bizjets are cleared to fly above normal airtraffic, which kinda makes sense.

And I bet that it was FL390, or 39.000 feet, which is some 13.000 metres. At least it makes sense to me.

Oh jeez, there goes Singapore Air again.

I and I'm sure Singapore Ailrlines are very happy to hear that you had a pleasant flight with them, and I and I'm sure they do as well, hope that you will be on board an SIA flight soon. Wonderful!

Do they pay you to say that? Son, when I was your age, I was out all day playing football, baseball, basketball, and chasing around the girls. I really think that a person of your age should be out enjoying being a kid, not going around thanking people for flying a company that you have no connection to whatsoever. Just my opinion.
