London To Budapest

Wed Jul 25, 2001 5:45 am

Last Friday two friends and I, all of us BA staff, flew out to Budapest from LHR on BA866. We got Club, I commented that this could be one of the last flights we do on BA's fast diminishing B757 fleet. Walking down the steps at Budapest I saw I was wrong, we had flown on G-BPEB, one of the -E4 engined ETOPS-capable aircraft being retained.
Lots of old Malev equipment on display at the airport, IL-18, IL-14, AN-2, TU-134 and what was probably a Soviet Li-2 licenced-built DC-3.
Also a lot of more recently retired TU-154's, with titles painted out.
Planning to return on Sunday, I rang BA and found out that the flight back was full, and so was the last flight to LHR, a Malev.
So we got the BA4250, which is operated by Malev, to LGW. It was a 67-seat Fokker 70, (HA-MND I think), and I got business again!
Service good both ways. The Fokker's business seat was surprisingly wide.
