We started this trip by staying over night at the Pittsburgh Airport Hyatt. We ate dinner there at the Olive Press, where the bill was more expensive than the room itself. We then went to the airport's "Airmall" which is great.
The next morning, we went to our gate and discovered that our flights were on time. The aircraft was an F100. Being that my father (Who I was travelling with, along with other family) is US Airways Chairman's Preferred, we were all upgraded at the gate and boarded onto the first class cabin. We were offered drinks before takeoff (8:40am). The plane sounds a little rickety being that it is older, but everything went smoothly. I had a bagel with fresh cantelope, kiwi, and strawberries for breakfast, along with a diet coke. There was no significant turbulence on this leg of our journey. We landed very smoothly at Charolette and surprisingly, the thrust reversers weren't activated. Our gate was still in use so we sat on the tarmac for about 5 minutes. There were many planes from US Airways, being that it was another hub. (MD-80, A319, 737-300, 737-400, etc...) We pulled into gate B12. After arrival, we stopped at the USAir Club (Very nice) and continued down to the D-Gates (Express Departures) and saw our next aircraft on the tarmac. It was a DHC-8 (Dash-8) We sat in the regular terminal until scheduled boarding. The express terminal was HOT! We proceeded out onto the tarmac and almost boarded the wrong aircraft! After the flight attendant corrected us, we boarded the 37 seat plane. I was in row 8 on the window. It should have had 2, but row 8 only has 1. They started the propellors and they plane shook and buzzed. We taxied out to the tarmac where we were #4 for a 10:50am takeoff. An Airbus A319 also landed. Then we took off. I ordered a diet coke. The plane was noisier than the F100, but not as loud as I thought it would be. I managed to put my contact lenses in so the flight was fairly smooth. The landing was cool because the airport is right in the middle of the island. You can see everything. We bounced once on landing, but then slowed to a taxi. Hilton Head airport (HHH) was redone not too long ago. The baggage claim is just a sloped side of an inside wall with doors at the top for the handlers to toss luggage down through. Otherwise the airport was very nice! We boarded the charter shuttle for my dads company and rode to the Marriott.
On the way home, we arrived back at HHH and checked in. We waited about 10 minutes and boarded. The 7:59 flight departed 15 minutes early on a Dash-8. I sat in row 8 again. There was a beutiful sunset. This plane was different than the other. It had a touch button for the lights etc... instead of a regular button.
It was another smooth flight. We landed in Charolette around 920pm. The brakes were activated and sparks flew from them. We pulled into our pre-occupied gate passing by ERJ's, CRJ's and Dash 8-300's. We debarked teh aircraft and proceeded to gate C13. We slept for a while in the gate. Finally we boarded the MD-80. I sat down in row 6 e and f because no one was sitting next to me. The flight was smooth the whole way until near descent. I used the lav once up i the 1st class cabin, which was surprisingly, noisier! After I sat down, the plane began an extremely sharp decent! We leveled out right over downtown PIT. We landed smoothly and the reversers were activated.
