PIT-MSP On US Airways

I arrived at the airport at around 12:45. The checkin line inside was enormously large so I went back outside to do curbside bag checkin. After that I headed to the gate, got my ticket, and then some food.

After I got some food I went back to gate A11 and got right on to the plane, seat 21F, the last row. I had the whole section of three seats to myself so I lifted up the armrests and made a couch for myself.

Before everyone boarded the captain came on the PA to announce that he would be starting the #2 engine. After that we all waited and waited and waited alittle bit more before one of the FAs came on and said that because the captain started the engine too soon they weren't able to finish loading the bags onto the plane. So we waited some more while they loaded the belly with more bags until we were finally pushed back.

We then headed to Runway 10L for departure. We were third in line behind a B733 and a B1900D. Once we were airborne we did a 180 to head west to CLE then DTW.
Service consisted of drink and a mixed bag of pretzels, rye chips, and salsa corn stix. Once we were past DTW we ran into some mild to heavy turbulence which the captain said would last for another 15-20 minutes. The turbulence lasted till we were over MKE. After that cloud cover thickened but surprisingly the flight was smooth after that.

On our approach to runway 12L we flew over Hudson, WI, St. Paul then arround Mpls. then did a 180 to line up with the runway. After we cleared the runway a few F15s I think landed (which I've never seen at MSP before) there was also a KC-10 (another rarety) and a very large plane that resembled a fighter but seemed too big to be one. Maybe someone from the MSP area can explain what they were all doing here.

Our arrival at the gate was 30 minutes late, putting us in at 3:45. Our arrival gate was B2. That ended my 17 day vacation on the east coast.

why would the captain announce to the world that he is starting the number two engine? Doesn't he do that several times every day? What's the big deal? When I start my car, I don't roll down the window and yell, "Clear muffler!"

That's bizzare.

And shouldn't he know that they weren't finished loading the cargo? The A319 has an LCD that displays
"Aft Cargo Door Ajar" I have seen it in pics.

Um....... Gate B2 doenst exist yet at msp, I bet you that you arrived at E2. Just thought that I would clear that up for ya.

AA737-823: You know, I wish I had a car now just so I could yell out the window "CLEAR MUFFLER!" every time I turned the key. I think that would be hysterical.

Hmmm... Why did he do that? I don't announce to the passengers that I'm about to take a piss.
