Delta #899 BWI-CVG 5:55pm 737-800 N3790A Old "new" livery scheme.

Check-in was fairly smooth. I originally had a middle seat since I booked about two weeks ago and the flight was very full. I called on Aug.13 and they were able to move me to a window seat 28A. I got my boarding pass and went to get a bite to eat. When I came back they were just making an announcement that they needed a few volunteers and they would get a $300 voucher for giving up their seat. Before I could even mull it over there were plenty of volunteers storming the gate agent. Oh well, maybe next time. We boarded and I proceeded to my seat. The plane was very clean and a pillow was on each seat. The plane had the little fold down video screens and they showed the safety announcements and then the flight tracker map was shown (for the remainder of the flight). I like being able to track where we are...nice touch. The plane was jam packed and we started taxiing to Rwy 15R for t/o. Already, 2 little kids behind me were arguing and play fighting and one kept whacking the tray table down and jolting my seat each time. I angrily turned around and looked at them and their mom. i watched some of the planes in front of us taxi to takeoff position and roar down the runway. One unusual thing was that a Metrojet 737 right in front of us started it's t/o roll and aborted about 1500 feet down the runway. i wondered for a second if he had an emergency but then I noticed a UPS 767 landing on runway 10 and crossing our intersecting runway (15R). Ooops! I wonder if ATC gave the 737 clearance to t/o? or if the 737 just misheard him. In any event, this stuff might happen frequently but I thought it was interesting and thankfully the 737 aborted before it got too close to the 767. The Metrojet then made a 180 degree turn right on the runway and came back to the front of the line and did his t/o again, uneventful this time. Anyway, we tookoff and cruised at 24,000 ft to CVG. They handed out drinks and a granola/raisin snack mix. We landed at about 7:20, a bit early and we had to wait at the jetway for 7 minutes for someone to pull it up to the plane. Meanwhile the kids behind me continued to roughhouse and be generally annoying kids. The flight was good though.

Delta #2286 CVG-ORD 8:40pm MD-80 N918DE Old livery scheme.

Boarding was fine as this flight was only about 50% full. I sat at the window in 23E. A tall older hippie looking guy (who smelled of alcohol) sat next to me and I was hoping that he would realize that he could grab a row all to himself if he wanted to. He asked the F/A if he could move to the exit row with more legroom and she said fine. He sat at the window behind me and another businessman was on the aisle. A third business man came aboard minutes later and looked at hippie guy and said "I think you're in my seat". The hippie guy was very polite and said he would just move to the middle seat. Well, this caused the 3rd guy on the aisle to explode! Really this caught me by surprise because he shouted. He said something like "Jesus Christ, the plane is half empty and you guys want to sit 3 abreast!!? what the hell is this? You (pointing to the man that just boarded) sit in another row and YOU (pointing to hippie guy) get your ass back to the window seat and away from me!" then he grumbled curse words under his breath. Amazingly the other 2 guys did as he asked and didn't say anything back to him. I think I would have said something back to him because he was such a jerk. I understood his point but he could have made his point in a much nicer manner. The plane ride was uneventful and short. The F/A's only had time to serve pre-poured water, coke or apple juice. I love the MD-80 for its smooth ride and quiet cabin. I felt very safe in this thing despite the trouble's it had last year. We arrived about 10 minutes early.

American ORD-BWI 9:50am MD-80 N591AA

i was scheduled to come back on Delta later in the day but I needed to come back early so I went over to ORD and asked the Delta agent if there was an earlier flight. he said yes but the connection through CVG was almost sold out so my standby status was poor. He said I could get on an AA flight nonstop and he wrote me up the ticket exchange. I was grateful. I walked over to the AA gate and they were just beginning the check-in. The agent told me that it looked good for me to standby since only one other person was on the list so far. I noticed the gate area getting very crowded and I was surprised since the Delta guy told me it looked like "plenty" of seats were available. After they boarded most of the plane I went back up and asked the agent if it looked good for me to get on. She made a weird face and said "um maybe" and then she said that one person had not checked in yet and it was 15 minutes before departure so she gave me the boarding pass and said "go ahead, if they're not on time then you deserve to go since you're here". Lucky me! She gave me 22E and I was psyched since 23E on the Delta MD-80 was a window seat. Unfortunately 22E on American was middle seat on the right side of the plane in the row of three, argghh!! At least they have more legroom which was definitely noticeable. The plane was jam packed full and even the lady next to me commented on how crowded the flight was for a mid-morning weekday flight. I told her that i thought most flights are crowded now since fares are low and some carriers are cutting back on routes. The flight was smooth and they served drinks. No snack mix or pretzels or anything was served with it. We landed in to BWI about 10 minutes early and that concluded my trip.

Any comments are welcome.
