Me and my family and some other relatives made our way to heathrow terminal 4 but since it was 6:30 am in the morning it took us nearly 2 hours to reach heathrow which normally takes 40 minutes. When we finally reached heathrow, i made my way to the BA check in desks which had very long queues as it was the summer season and checked in and as usual we were asked the routine questions "did you pack your bags yourself" and "were you at any time unattended from your bags while packing" so after answering these questions the lady at the desk gave us our boarding card and told us to proceed to gate 16 within the next 15 minutes and since we were late getting to the airport we immediately made our way to gate 16.
At the gate the check-in agents again checked our tickets, boarding cards etc. At this time i was getting really, theres nothing better in the world than boarding a plane to exotic destinations. As we reached the door of the plane we were greeted by a cheerful flight despatcher and a flight attendant who welcomed us aboard. As soon as i entered the plane i was amazed at how big the 747 really is. We were assigned bulk head seats at the back of the plane so we had plenty of leg room. we sat down and a pre-take off juice was served and menu's handed out. By this time we had sast in the plane for over 45 minutes and it was nearly 12:00 pm. At last the captain came over the announcer and told us various details about our flight but i was quite surprised to hear him mention "Ladies and gentlemen, if you have any queries about the safety of this aircraft then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the cabin crew" i was wondering why would he say that, i've never heard this in a plane before. Anyway we began to taxi down the runways and as usual i saw the usual suspects at heathrow including lots of UA,AA 767's 777's, Iberia md80, aer lingus A321, Gulf air A330 virgin A340 etc. The plane then rolled down the runway and roared into the sky but the 747 seemed noisier than the 777 i think but i could feel the plane climbing hard as i was sat in my seat. 30 minutes later the flight attendants came round with the lunch which was:
Caesar salad with parmesan flakes, garlic croutons and caesar dressing.
Grilled lamb medallions with rosemary jus, sea salt roasted new potatoes, seasonal vegetables
Sesame chicken with sweet and sour sauce, egg fried rice, chinese greens
Dessert was Classic British summer pudding and mascarpone cream
I had decide tohave the lamb and it was OK, Drinks were served aswell like coke, pepsi, orange juice, wine and tea and coffee. But all this was served with a smile by the flight attendants who were so helpful and cheerful and i never needed to ask for anything, the FA's always came round serving drinks and asking if everything was OK which was very nice, alot of people have had bad experiences on BA lately but the crew on this flight were superb. This 747 was brand new and as i was sitting in the bulk head the PTV's were located under the seats, the seats were quite confortable aswell. The flight was absolutely packed in every class, i think it was over 95% full.
Two hours before landing we were served afternoon tea which consisted of:
finger sandwiches of egg and cress, cheese and pickle and chicken mayonnaise
Fruit scone with strawbeey preserve and clotted cream along with tea or coffee or any soft drink you like. Afetr 7.5 hours we made a smooth landing at JFK and parked next to other BA planes at terminal 7. As we walked off the plane the flight attendants stood by the exits and thanked us for flying BA. Then i enjoyed 4 fun filled weeks in new york and detroit
But overall BA is still a world class airline with good food, modern clean aircraft and friendly and attentive cabin crew.
I will definitely fly with BA again
Any comments appreciated
