This is a trip report of a great flight I had in January 2001.
On January 6th, I travelled from Sion to London Heathrow on a Crossair Avro RJ 100. Sion is a small city in the Swiss Alps, in the south of Switzerland. The airport is a Swiss Air Force base but, since 1990, there are commercial flights.
The flight was due to take off at 12.05 pm. I arrived at the airport at 11.00 am. We boarded the Really nice Crossair plane at 11.45am. Seats were great, the all female cabin crew was cheerful and really good looking! Then the pilot welcomed us onboard and said that due to really hard snowfall we had to wait about 20 minutes before take off, the runway wasn't clean enough! That was not Crossair's fault! Before take off, all passengers received newspaper (in English, French and German) and a glass of Champaigne or OJ.
Then we took off. This take off was the nicest of my life! Snow and really nice mountains all around us. I was quite afraid before take off because there are so many High mountains. Then we flow over the Alps. The service was great. The hostess were really funny, kind with all passengers and there looked to be really happy about their job!
Then we landed at Heathrow airport with just 5 minutes delay.
Crossair fly Sion-LHR-Sion not every day so I had a return flight with Swissair to Geneva. The return flight was really good as well: Swissair A321, ontime, nice crew, good food!
The flight to/from Sion are only operated in winter on Saturdays. Most passengers are tourists going skiing (it is possible to ski just 20 minutes away from the airport!!!).
For next winter, Crossair is flying to LHR and to Basle, where you have really good connections with all european city in the EuroCross Hub!
Don't forget your camera, there are so many nice views!
Great Job Crossair! I Hope there will be new Flights from Sion in the Future!
PS: Cityflyer flies twice a week from Gatwick and Birmingham to Sion but as a charter Flight!
