Air Canada To Quebec

Sun Sep 09, 2001 12:31 am

I left for Newark at about 10:00 AM on Friday August 31 for my 12:20 AC flight to Toronto then Toronto-Quebec. AC was giving us a hard time about checking in because the travel agency messed up BIG TIME. Finally it's all over and they let us check in and by now we have little time to browse around the terminal. Althugh there were many good Safety Cards I COULD have gooten at the other gates, I just didn't have any time. I got some pictures of a 747 and a Air Tran aircraft. We boarded at gate A21. My seat on this A320 was 16F allowing some good pictures of the wing. I saw the inflight magazine and safety card and in the inflight magazine I saw a 1:600 AC aircraft that would be PERFECT for my collection. However I thought I would get it on my back (Montreal-Newark which they didn't have  Sad ). We took of from runway 22-R. I had a ice tea, nothing special, after the snack of a turkey and cheese sandwhich, which I didn't eat because I am a vegetarian, I went to the galley and asked the flight attendant for a Safety Card he asked what seat I was in and I told him. Time to land. Flaps down, picture taken. We hit the runwayand I don't yet have a A320 safety card yet so as we get off the plane I ask again and he is only able to find a rather old Safety Card, but hey better that then nothing. We went through coustoms and once again we had no time to browse at the terminal, needless to say no Safetys. We boarded a DC-9 flight 516 to Quebec. If that Aircraft isn't the oldest aircraft I'll ever fly on, I am afraid to know. I remebered that you're alloud to visit the cockpit in flight since we are no longer in US Airspace and I asked the flight attendant if I could. She said there were problems and she would get me when we were in the air, that never happened. I got some great pictures of a Canadian A340(?) registered C-GGBI and a AC 747-400 registered as C-FANA. As we were waiting to take off I was able to get some pictures of landing planes which I really do like. We took off from 24-R. We're in the air and I spot a AC 747 that I barely got landing and was able to get a everhead shot of it. Let's skip a little shall we? I get my DC-9 Safety Cards. We land. I thought at the Quebec airport we could walk around, I could take pictures and ask for Safetys. Wrong. There are only about 10 "gates". One jetway for international flights. And one half-jetway. I took a picture of it, so look for it! I got a shot of the stairs of the DC-9. So we get our car...a few days pass by... it's now Tuesday back to the airport  Smile . On may way out of the airport I see a little gallery and I decide to see it when I come back. Cute little shop I must say. They mainly had Herpa's but I got two Schabak 747's, at the giftshop, one PIA and the other Surniam Airways. If you want to, you can check out there website at: (They give the address for the gallery.) They have a verynice mini airport and if you are ever there I would suggest looking. As we go through security they don't stop us. We then had time so went tot he main part and got magazines. When we went through security the SECOND time they stopped us opened up our bag and saw we had maple syrup and let us continue. However, we pointed out that we didn't change anything in our bags when we left security. The guy's response: "Well, I didn't scan your bags the first time." We came to the conclusion that Safety depends on who's working there. Also they don't ask the usual questions. "Did anyone ask yout to carry anything on-board?" etc. We are taking a Air Nova Dash 8-100 flight 8733. Lucky for me as soon as I got onboard I asked the Flight Attendant if I could have a Safety which she gave me, about 5  Smile, a few minutes later we had to de-plane because of "personal issues", we learned it was mechanical at the check in counter. The Agents there had no clue what to do simply they never had to deal with a situation like this. Finally we get onboard another Dash 8-100 which of course I got more Safety's. Seeing the landing gear go up and down is very fun. Upon arriving to Montreal we had to "hand deliver" our baggage to our connecting flight. We went through customs there and it was very funny. We were pratically the only ones there. So we get our bags after a 20 minute wait go to another carousel and ask the people what flight we are on (the change of aircrafts and a delay before made us late) they said they were still boarding and to put our bags down the "express chute" meaning that it doesn't go through security! As we get to our gate on of the check in counter people is having a fit at us while the other one is just rolling her eyes as if she was sick of that other lady. We go down the jetway where literally they are opening the door of the plane. I enjoyed that. We take off...I get my Safety's of this DC-9...We land. We find out that our bags never went on the plane, which we weren't suprised about. Got them the next day. Great trip!
