Cancelled Trip From PIT To SFO With Continental...

Sat Sep 15, 2001 6:01 am

Okay I'm not real sure if I should be writing this story in the trip reports here, but I decided to anyway. Well on September 12th 2001, I was supposed to fly from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania(PIT) to San Francisco, California(SFO) with Continental Airlines. And of course this wasn't going to be a non-stop flight because Continental doesn't have a hub in Pittsburgh. Actually I was going through Houston, Texas on the way out to SFO and on the way back, which was supposed to be on September 18th 2001, I was scheduled to fly though Cleveland, Ohio(CLE) and then on to PIT. However, unfortunately, this trip NEVER took place and of course everyone knows why! It's because of the UNSPEAKABLE tradgedy which occured throughout the United States on September 11th 2001. This horrible date, which will certainly live with us for the rest of our lives, four jets were hijacked from our USA airports and flown into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and of course into an area in western Pennsylvania. The jets used in these ugly attacks were Boeing 767's and Boeing 757's, which are extremely large aircraft and can house tons and tons of fuel. At this point in time, it's not known how many people lost their lives in these combined attacks, but the numbers are obviously many. Probably close to 10,000 and possibly many more. My thoughts and prayers go out to these unfortunate folks and also to their families and friends, and the USA. And also I commend our pilots and flight crews for moving on as well as they are. Right now air traffic is moving along close to normal and eventally, hopefully, will go back to normal because in my opinion, flying is the most important means of transportation. It's very important! It's just a shame people won't be able to get into the airport concourse areas unless they're ticketed to fly because I just used to love spending time at the airport walking around and looking at the planes. But I guess we gotta do what we gotta do to stop these hijackings.

Well moving on here, I was talking about my flights to SFO airport from PIT airport and of course I was supposed to leave on September 12th but this was shot down due to the USA getting attacked, so I moved my trip plans with the same intinery up and I'll be leaving on October 12th 2001 and returning on October 18th 2001. By the way, this fare I got to SFO from PIT was just awesome! It was only a total of $147.00 for the round-trip and of course it is with Continental Airlines. I bought this ticket online at Continental's web site. Usually you can receive a discount if you buy your airline ticket directly from the airline's web site, online.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to flying on this trip and I'm not letting my flying experiences get ruined due to the surprise attack, I'm still a lover of flying and if anything, flying will be more safe due to the increased security throughout the airports. Again I wanna commend our pilots and flight crews for their great efforts in getting us back into the air.

I've thought over some things about this attack on the USA and also gathered some other people's thoughts. I wrote this trip report above and I left out something, I left out my thoughts on this terroism. Thus I wanna give you some of these thoughts...I think this was not all bad, in fact I think it was possibly more good then bad. The reason I say this is because now, after these gruesome attacks, we all feel closer to eachother. Our friends, families and even strangers are now much more meaningful to us. We appreciate everyone better.

Our country has been falling apart pretty badly. I mean we're killing eachother. Look at the recent school shootings, kids killing kids. Looks at all the violence in the workplace, friends are killing friends. Wives don't appreciate their husbands and visa versa. We've been growing APART from eachother for a while now, and fighting with eachother and killing eachother. Isn't it time for a wake up call here?......

Well I think perhaps September 11th and the events of it was a good wake up call for us all, don't you? I do. This is an act of God folks, not an act of evil. It's a nice wake up call for us all. Maybe we'll appreciate eachother and unite and make peace and live as one.
