PVD-PIT-LAX On US Airways

Wed Sep 26, 2001 7:42 am

On 9/20, I flew from PVD to LAX on US, via PIT. I took flight 592 out of Providence, which was operated by a 737-400, nonstop to Pittsburgh. The flight had about 100 passengers on it, and I found the jet to be extremely comfortable. The service was very friendly and hospitable, and just over an hour later, we touched down in the heart of Pennsylvania.

After an hour layover, I walked to gate C60 to board my 767-200ER nonstop to LAX. This was my first time on a US AIr widebody, and I must say, I was VERY impressed. The coach seat was very comfortable, with above average legroom. The duration of the flight was 4 hours and 50 minutes at 39,000 feet. 30 minutes after takeoff beverages were served, followed 20 minutes later by dinner (choices were Roast Beef and Ravioli...I had the Ravioli, which was very good), followed immediately by another round of drinks. About 30 minutes after dinner, coffee was served. The time flew bye, as I was listening to R.E.M classics on audio channel 12....it was the best audio program I have ever heard on any flight. The flight was very smooth, and we touched down on runway 25R about 15 minutes early. The 767 was so very nice...much better than Delta's.

After spending three great days in the L.A area, I boarded flight 49, a 757-200, for Pittsburgh. This red-eye flight wasn't totally full, so I had a whole row to myself. Overall a nice flight, although very bumpy at times. Service consisted of a round of drinks about 30 minutes after takeoff, which was adequate considering most people were sleeping after that. We landed in PIT about 5 minutes early after the 4 hour and 20 minute flight. Gotta love the 757!

I connected in PIT to an A319 for the flight back to PVD. The flight had about 85 passengers on it, and once again, no one in my row. It was raining pretty hard, but we took off, albeit 35 minutes late due to the weather. I found the Airbus to be comfortable, but surprisingly, not as nice as the 57, 67, or even the 37-400. The flight was a very short 1 hour and 2 minutes, and we landed about 10 minutes late.

Well that's all for now, gotta go write a paper. I'll report on my next trip, PVD-MSY on United, then MSY-PVD on US, in a little over a week. Until then, stay safe, and God Bless America!

Great Report! I have been on every US narrow body (except A320) but never on a US Airways widebody. Most trip reports say they think the old 767's are feeling, well, old.  Smile Some of US's planes are excellent, and some are very ready for retirement. I was on a 737-300 this summer in the old paint job, the exterior was horrendous and looked like someone beat it with a sledge hammer. The interior was filthy and smelly. But a few days before that trip, I was on a brand new 2-day old A321 and it was the best flight in my life, especially with the free first class upgrade for all of the 14 passengers on board. hmmmm....I am also surprised at the fairly high load factors you had on your flights.
