Aeroflot 777 SVO-PEK

Fri Oct 26, 2001 4:39 am

30 Sep 2001 - SVO-PEK - VP-BAU - Flight Time: 6h 50 min. I recently flew Aeroflot's 777 from SVO to PEK and here's my report of that flight: Arrived on another SU flight from ARN so I had a long layover. Saw my plane come in from London about two hours before our scheduled departure time. Flight started boarding about 40 min before flight and it was a free for all but went okay anyway. Went to my windowseat, 20 A, which turned out to be a bulkhead which probably was great as there didn't seem to be that much legroom in the other seats. The seat was in a poor condition with big holes in the upholstry and the worst thing was that it was extremely hard. Felt like sitting on a parkbench and I had to sit in a particular angle or my back would hurt also. The plane was barely three years old so this was a bit surprising to me. The whole plane seemed to be in a similiar condition incl the lavs. Anyway, pushback and takeoff basically on time and then drink service which was okay. About twenty minutes later dinner service and no drink service at all with the dinner so if one was very thirsty, one might finish a drink and would not getting anything more until breakfeast 5 hrs later. The flight attendents were all very young, in their early twenties and very pretty but were not very friendly or courteous. The dinner was chicken that was boiled to pieces with pasta and was barely edible and I'm not very picky. No inflight movie but they had the Airshow map which I like and of course audio channels. We were also given an amenities kit which is not too common for economy class these days and it was okay. Got a few hours of sleep and then breakfeast which was okay, but same unfriendly flight attendents. Landing uneventful and Captain managed to get say a "thank for flying Aeroflot" before we deplaned. All in all an okay flight but certainly the least pleasant 777 flight I've been on. The scary part is that Aeroflot now is supposedly three to four times better than they were ten years ago. Aeroflot still has a LONG way to go to come up to Western standards and hopefully Delta Air Lines and Air France could teach them a lot about service. I have now been on 23 out of 25 carriers' 777s and hope to fly on the remaining ones next year. The777Man

Good report -- could you at least go to the galley to get something to drink, or were they unfriendly about it? Kinda shocking how they would let a nice plane like that go to seed so quickly; if their cabins look like that, one can imagine what their maintainance elsewhere is like. (shudder).

Thanks for your nice comments! Doubt they had anything in the galley but I was trying to get some sleep so I didn't go there. The777Man

Nice report, was a good read. Didn't really expect SU to be that bad. Which are the other two airlines you have not travelled with yet?

Haven't flown on El Al or Air Europe's 777s yet. Hopefully I'll fly on either of them next year, we'll see. Varig should have their first 777 on 30 Oct so I would nn to fly their 777 also. The777Man

Nice report. Your report has confirmed all those bad rumours about Aeroflot.

Nice trip report, The777Man , thank you!
I really hope to see you soon here at ELAL in one of our 777 , maybe I will be an F/A on your flight.
How come you traveled on so many airlines , is this as a non-rev ?

Most are non-rev but some are regular tickets. Hope to fly LAX-TLV on LY next summer but we'll see. I really like the 777 and started flying the different carriers' 777s. See my userprofile for my webpage with details. The777Man

Hey Lars...

A very good trip report. It's a pleasure to read it. Sorry about the least comfortable B777 flight you experienced, maybe you would wish to say which B777 was the most enjoyable and pleasant for you?

See ya.

My most enjoyable flight was on UA 941 on 14 Nov97 FRA-ORD. I was in First class and the food and the service was really great. I like day flights better than night flights and truly enjoy great inflight service. Another great flight recently was UA 850 on 1Oct01 PEK-ORD which also had nice service and also the United First Suite so I slept great for about 8 hrs of the flight. This was the flight after the Aeroflot flight. Also really liked Lauda Air because of their great service. I have taken a lot of shorter flights and a few longer on other carriers so it's very difficult to compare. The777Man

Interesting...

I reported on an SU 777 flight from Moscow to Beijing in this trip report (I was known as AndyEastMids then!):

Looking back, seems like we share a common dislike for Aeroflot's 777s! Big grin

Yes, I remember reading your report. I think they have a lot to improve but it wasn't a bad flight, it was okay, but nothing more. The777Man

Anyone who knows Russian culture knows that they come accross as being very unfriendly people. Once you break the ice, it is a different story.

I love America. I guess that makes me Bush's poodle, but I'd rather be a dog in New York City than a prince in Riyadh.

Not to mention their flying habits -- like a pilot letting his 15-year old son fly an A310? (which crashed, by the way, a few years ago)

You wouldn't be talking about RAL would you? Wasn't an Aeroflot pilot in that instance you should know....unless you have those secret documents which prove it actually was??  Insane

The Boeing 777 is a very well known and respected aircraft. It ticks me off that an airline such as Aeroflot would spend so much money on such a good aircraft only to turn it into a piece of crap a few years down the road.  Pissed
