Anyone Been On A BA 777?

Fri Oct 26, 2001 8:24 pm

I am planning to visit New York this summer, and I presume I will fly on the 777 with BA.
Can anyone tell me what its like to travel on this powerful monster on takeoff?
Are there views of the runway on takeoff and landing displayed on your seat back TV screen?
Do they ever have the safety demo's done by flight attendents anymore?
Thanks

Try posting this in the correct forum, which is the civil aviation forum!

I fflew a BA 777 from LHR to IAD back in August. The aircraft was spotless inside and out, in the new four class configuration. Takeoff from LHR was impressive; the huge bird really lept off the runway. No take off/runway views on the PTVs. Service from the crew was top notch. I even had a terrific flight deck visit while en route (but this was a month before 9/11). You should have a good trip!

i totally agree with Stretch 8. I flew on one this summer: the aircraft was spotless, and the service was quite good. The seats were not optimally comfortable, but better than many other airlines.

If you are flying to New York, currently one of the JFK flights is also a 777, so you have teh choice of both EWR and JFK airports!

You don't get a cockpit view on your PTV screen, but apart from Emirates, I have not heard of any other airline that offers this feature.

All in all I would highly recommend it

BA's service is first rate. I took a BA 777 from ORD-LHR it was great. I used my oneworld pass on BA as all of AA's 777 flights were full. There ecomomy class service is good. BA and AA's 777's are similar but AA has a better coach/economy seating configuration with the 2-5-2 compared to BA's 3-3-3 . Too bad they don't have AA's "More Room Throughout Coach". It really makes a difference, especially on long haul flights when your "riding in the back of the bus".

Yep, lots of times to the Gulf.

Fortunately I haven't been in Y on these flights, but I can tell you that up-front it is simply "superbe" as the French would say.

The BA a/c have always been pretty damn clean in my experience, and although cabin service can vary, it is mostly consistantly good.

The great thing about BA is that you can be sure what you'll be getting-safe, reliable service to anywhere in the world.

Yes, they should definitely adopt "more room in coach" as AA has done, but I fear this effort has manifested itself in the rather pricey "World Traveller Plus" (usually slightly more than a flexible Economy fare).

Hey Marco, read this:

Looks like you only like to answer these threads when you have information on them. Otherwise, you post all that crap that annoys just about everyone.

As for British Airways' 777, try looking at some photos of them on A.net for the interior, looks just like BA's 744 coach class  Smile

Really EGGD?

Well I'll have you know that I've been on a BA 777 over ten times and if there's anyone who knows what's it's like, to be on a BA 777 it would be me. I don't post crap EGGD but this forum is for trip reports and if you can't see that (maybe because you're too young???) it's not my problem! Anyways I guess I'll have to concentrate on FT more, where the people are actually mature...right Jason  Smile/happy/getting dizzy?

I have flown on BA777-236ER's well over 20-25 times, and i must say thay are wonderful. The World Traveler class, although a bit limited on leg room has the most comfortable seats of any airline i have been on. Others should take note. BA's 777's rule the skys  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

i took a ba 772 from LHR to BOS last year. i dont think the power at to was that amazing, it allways depend on what the pilot's doing. i think he was a gentle person.

not so gentle was the guy from belgium who took the place besides my girlfriend. i sat close to the window, then my girlfriend and then this guy. you know, 3 4 3 or so. this damn guy had such a bad breath that both of us thought we must puke all the time. the smell even did not disappear during or after dinner (which was excellent). i dont know what was wrong with him. the probability of that happening is much lower in a A33/4.

I took one to Jamaica earlier this year.
Take off was fab, very powerful, definitely one of the fastest, so enjoy the view.
My BA 777 was a AML lease plane, configured for 3-4-3 in Traveller which seemed really tight. Fortunately I was in Club World (old style) so didn't have to worry.
Was also miles nicer than the AA 777 I went on to New York in December last year...

I take it you mean Jason Seiple? Well that doesn't surprise me...

Maybe you should just press the 'suggest deletion' button instead of just posting your thoughts, afterall that is why it is there, isn't it? Surely if they WERE in the wrong forum, all the ones that you have replied to would have been MOVED by now, but obviously you haven't NOTICED that yet.

Speedbird - can you confirm that you will be flying on a BA 777, because it could be either that or a BA 744...

If you are not sure post the flight dates/times and we can find out for you.

Unfortunetely, i haven't flown 10 or 20 times on a BA777 like some people here, so i can't really give my personal opinion. All i can really say is that everyone who i have spoken to who have flown on it have said that the legroom isn't too bad, the entertainment is excellent, the food is ok and the service is average.
