YYZ - YVR, 10/29/01

Mon Nov 05, 2001 6:28 am

Since commencing employment with my company January 22/01, I have flown around 60 times and I have had the opportunity to fly to all of the major Canadian airports (and some very obscure out of the way ones too!!).

YYZ-YVR (Toronto - Vancouver)
Canada 3000 Flight 397
Dep. 2:10
Arr. 4:15

Airbus A320

Late pushing back from the gate at YYZ, but made up a lot of time in the air flying a southerly flight path over northern U.S. Generally speaking this route on Canada 3000 is usually serviced by a Boeing 757, but I do enjoy flying in the Airbus. It just seems as though the there is a lot more room in both the seats and the aisle. I was seated in 20D and even though Canada 3000 is a no frills airline, they always are very hospitable and pleasant/courteous. Arrived on time in Vancouver at 4:15 Pacific time and got my bags and caught the courtesy shuttle to my nearby hotel.

YVR-YXS (Vancouver - Prince George)
West Jet Flight 21
Dep. 8:45 am
Arr. 9:50 am

Boeing 737 - 200

A quick flight to Prince George for business. Very scenic over the mountains of northern B.C. The weather was somewhat overcast so this flight was not as scenic as the one I took to P. George earlier in the year. Smooth flight and the cheerly FA's are always a blast on West Jet. The approach is always very apparent here. There are a lot of hard banks and The pilots always seem to put down hard at YXS, probably due to the short runway and cross winds on approach?? Does not bother me, but looking around the cabin at people who are not frequent fliers is sometimes humourous, with their white knuckles dug into the armrests.

YXS - YVR (Prince George to Vancouver)
West Jet Flight 27
Dep. 10:20 am
Arr. 11:25 am

Boeing 737 - 200

Very nice quick flight. I was very tired due to the fact I was still adjusting to the time change. I was still on Toronto time and woke up at 3:00 am both mornings in Prince George. I read local newspaper and had some complimentary crackers and a diet cola. Weather in Vancouver was very wet (surprise ....surprise) and dreary. Just what I needed to make my 5 hour layover feel even longer.

YVR-YYZ (Vancouver to Toronto)
Canada 3000 Flight 398
Dep. 5:15 pm
Arr. 12:35 am

Airbus A320

Finally after a long layover we were ready to board at 4:40. A short delay while waiting for final paperwork (as the pilot called it) meant for a late departure. However flying time in the air was on 3:52, which is a lot less than the normal 4:30. Apparently a heavy tailwind and decent weather. A very uneventfull flight to Toronto other than the Chicken Macaroni and Cheese dish which was hard on my stomach. After takeoff, the FA offered to move me to row 20 and gave me the whole row to myself, which was very nice of her. I thanked her profusely and was very appreciative. A very windy approach to YYZ but we did arrive on time. I did not realize how windy it really was until I got outside of the terminal and thought I was going to be blown over by the crisp wind.

That was my trip report.
