AA First Class 767 To Hawaii..Question

Mon Nov 12, 2001 7:40 am

Has anyone flown the AA 767-300ER to Hawaii in First Class? Are the seats the old grey ones or have they been changed, how are they? Are there PTVs? Thanks for the info, I am trying to decide whether to use AA, TW (763), or DL (764) to Hawaii in First Class, I have seen pics of TWs and DLs aircraft online, I cant find a picture of AAs. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going first class/business class. Take Continental. They are really the only airline with a real premium cabin to Hawaii. The other airlines (TW, AA, DL, UA) are all using the domestic first class.

I would have to re-affirm Jcs17 on taking Continental to Hawaii. The other airlines offer big seats...that's it (private t.v.'s are in Delta's first class seats though). Continental BusinessFirst offers a reclining chair, personal t.v., and great inflight meals. You'll enjoy it a lot...especially because you'll be on their 767-400 E.R.

I traveled HNL-DFW First Class on AA with a 767-300ER back in January.

There are no PTV's. The seats are brand new blue leather with power recline and power leg rests. Adjustable lumbar maybe too. I found them very comfortable though 2x2x2 on a 767 is not super plush like it is on DC10/L10/777/747. The interior had been refurbished.

The inflight service was excellent as was the food. On the night flight back they get dinner out of the way quick, dim the lights and let you sleep. Breakfast is served prior to landing. The flight attendants wear kimonos.

Before you rule out AA for lack of a PTV, check their website and see what movie is playing on the main screen and what music is available on the IFE.

AA's "main cabin" service to Hawaii was acceptable but nothing special.

Continental Biz first seats and service beats any other domestic airline. Some 757's have it and is great on those birds too, however the new 767's and 777's have the new entertainment systems that the 757's dont have.

Kimonos, on an American Airlines domestic flight? More likely they were muumuus.

A Kimono is a traditional Japanese dress; a muumuu is what you would find in Hawaii.

F/A Hawaiian Service Unforms

Thanks for the correction.

How do you rate Hawaiian's service by the way as far as food, attention to details, and individual service?

In coach (where I fly), I've found that Hawaiian's food is actually pretty good, better than Delta's or United's. Personal service doesn't seem to be all that much better than others, though the flight attendants do seem friendlier.

Hawaiian has won many awards for their first class service.

But of course you have to watch out for Hawaiian on the transpacific flights. The First class layout is so inconsistent. You may have 38" of pitch on one flight, 40" on another and then 55" on another.

If you do take HA try to get on an Ex-CO bird for the reasons stated above. The Ex-AA birds have the domestic first class.

But Hawaiians service rocks. The food is very good and the f/a's are very friendly.

I can think of three different first class layouts, I don't know the pitches.

Standard ex-AA DC-10-10 first class
Renaissance ex-AA DC-10-30 first class (the seats are a little smaller)
ex-CO DC-10-30 first class

The Renaissance aircraft used to be configured with many more first class seats (using most of the second cabin, up to about row 16), but over the summer these were reconfigured so that only the front cabin has first class seats, but still in 2-3-2 configuration.

If you are going to go to Hawaii in first, take United. On UA you can fly in a 777, or a 763, or a 757. Take your pick. Also, United serves the most destinations in Hawaii from the mainland. Try UA to Hawaii; the service is awsome and the 777s are excellent.

Well one important question that we're all forgetting is the price??? While First class air fares to Hawaii can vary greatly, the actual service doesn't vary that much especially in First Class. Personally I prefer AA's domestic First class to most other US airlines. Although I agree with the others about CO, AA's flight attendants seem to be a cut above most other airlines. Their inflight service is probably the best too. Anyway thats just my opinion. Where are you departing from??? Those flights to Hawaii can be long especially those to Hawaii. I would opt for a non-stop flight to save the time.

We all know how volatile air fares are so this could completely change in five minutes but just for discussion's sake I checked travelocity for First Class fares LAX-HNL-LAX.

I pulled the dates of Jan 13th out and back the 20th out of thin air.

Delta 767-400
$2,049
Hawaiin DC-10 or 767
$2,211
United 757 or 767
$2,234
American 757-200 or 767-300
$2,411
Continental 767-400
$2,411

DFW-LAX-DFW
American 767-300
$3,865

I have seen ads in the Los Angeles Times Sunday travel section for First Class bucket fares and for sale frequent flier tickets for $1,250.

Last year Delta was quoting $1,200 DFW-HNL-DFW First Class on their now defunct L-1011 non-stop flights.

I traveled to Hawaii in F Class with United a couple years ago. The outbound LAX - HNL 747 was fantastic. Large reclining seats with leg rests, awesome pitch, great service. HOWEVER, I beg to differ with ILUV767 because the return trip was OGG - SFO on a 767. The configuration was 2X2X2 (coach was 2X3X2) and there was no discernable pitch difference from coach and the seats did not have leg rests. The service was the same, but the F Class cabin was not comfortable at all. I was feeling I did not get my money's worth on the 767.
