Australia - Bali. (AAL-CPH-LHR-SIN-DRW - AYQ-SYD - SYD-DRW-DPS - DPS-SIN-LHR-CPH-AAL).
My family is I, my wife and our 3 childres (10, 6 and 2)
I have not reg the reg.no. on the aircrafts.
Here is my trip repport.
6th october 2001.
We drove from my home town til Aalborg(AAL). Here we had a short flight with SAS(SK) to Copenhagen(CPH) - 30 min. The plane was a MD-82, painted in SAS's new livery. We got only coffee and orangejuice. The flight was nice. Really not much to write about.
After 6 hours in Copenhagen(CPH) we lifted off to London(LHR) on a B757-200 from British Airways(BA). The plane was painted with some chineese or japan signs on the tail. We were lucky to get the nice blue leather seats in the front of the economy class. There has been a lot of writing about the takeoff performance on the B757, but I found it rather normal. I have over 150 takeoffs on MD-80, and I find them quite good in acceleration and climb - but of cause these are almost domestic flights in Denmark, so the planes are on low fuel. Anyway the flight took us over the NorthSea to London. The flight and FA was OK.
In LHR we change from Terminal to Terminal 4 by bus. We saw a lot of BA B747-400. After some shopping we finally took to the boarding lounge. the flight was at 22.40. The plane was a B747-400 from BA. The colors was the new one. I think it is called "Union Jack". Our seats was jus in the front of the economy class - just were the wing starts. The plane had not been fitted with the new BusinessClass. But it had PTV in all 3 classes.
The food and service with was quit average. Our 3 childres slept about 11 hours on the plane, and I had a 5 hours sleep. I woke up over the India. From here we still had about 4 hours before reaching Singapore. We landed arround 18.45 local time, 12h45m after taking of from LHR. We parked at Terminal 1.
In Singapore we was shopping a little bit, both in Terminal 1 and in terminal 2. Arround 3½ hours later we went to the departure lounge.
Our 4th flight would bring us to Darwin in Australia.
The flight from SIN to DRW was on a QF B763. There was now PTV for this 4½ hours flight. But I must say that I think that sitting I a plane, which is going to Australia for the first time, was quit cool. The food, FA's ect was good. I didn't get any sleep on this flight.
So finally after 38 hours travelling we landed in Darwin Australia.
In Northeren Teritory we had rented a car for 7 days. We saw Kakadu Nationalpark, Litchfield Nartionalpark and Nitmiluk National Park, before we took a long drive to Alice Springs and Ayers Rock.
The flight from Ayers Rock (AYQ) to Sydney (SYD) was on a QF 733. The flight was arround 3 hours. Qantas domestic is quit ordinary, you even have to pay for beer and wine.
After spending 5 days in Sydney we flew via Darwin to Denpasar(Bali). Both flights was on QF 734. There was not much different between the domestic flight, 4 hours, and the international flight, 2h15m.
We stayed on Bali for 2 weeks.
But on Bali called Qantas to ask if they still were using the B747-200 on the wedsday flight to Singapore. The answer was YES. I then asked if it was possible that we could sit on the upper deck, where QF has economy class on the B742. They told my that they could put it in as a request, but could not garanti it.
So we were very thrilled when we checked in. We got row 12 abc and 13 ab. But we still did not know if it was on the upper deck. But when we showed our boarding pass to the FA in the plane he just said. "Please go up in the front and follow the staircase to the upper deck. What a moment. You are really sitting high up. There were room for about 30 pax. The overhead locker is in the side between the wall and the A seat. Anyway we had a lovely flight to SIN. the dinner was Pizza and red wine. The ride was very nice, and you could just hear a little "wisper" from the 4 RR engines.
After a short stop we flew from SIN to LHR on a BA B744. This flight is the flight where I have got the worst service ever. The food was very very bad. Not even your dog would eat it. But anywhere I managed to sleep for about 5 hours, on this 14h flight. KEEP ON TRYING BA!!
We landed 4:35 am local time in LHR terminal 4. We changed to terminal 1.
The plane to CPH, a BA A320, lifted off at about 7 am. Here we had a very nice breakfast. Landed 2h15 min later in CPH.
Here we had to rush to catch our domestic plane SK MD80, to AAL.
Back in Skagen, Denmark again, after travelling 38.000 km on 11 flights I can only say this: WE ARE COMMING BACK MATE'S.
