It all started in Grand Forks "International" airport on the wednesday before thanksgiving. I was flying to visit my older brother in Albany, NY. I showed up quite a bit too early for my flight. Needless to say I was pretty bored. Tehre wasn't a whole lot going on, every once and a while you would see a UND Cadet roll by. Finally while I was watching a UND plane take off, I saw in the distance coming in on the same runway, but different direction, the DC-9 that would take me to Minneapolis. Obviously, the ATC and UND pilot were well aware of this plane because once they got about 100 feet off the runway it turned to avoid the traffic. The flight to Minneapolis was only about an hour long. I didn't get a window seat :-( but hey, I was getting out of the area for a while, so I was happy. The landing at MSP was pretty uneventful till the flight attendant decided to joke around by saying "man are these guys good or what" right after touchdown. Is this not the usual outcome of a NWA DC-9 flight?
I had a little less than 2 hours in MSP. I took the opportunity to get some burgerking and stuff my face while watching planes. I was in heaven. Finally I boarded my flight for buffalo. I got a window seat, so I was happy. The flight to buffalo was really nice. I enjoyed it a lot. We flew over the great lakes, green bay, and Hamilton, Ontario. I could see Toronto out in the distance. The landing at BUF was pretty smooth. I got to poke my head in the cockpit after the flight, I took a picture, but for some reason Wal Mart decided they didn't want to develop it. I see it on the negatives, but the picture isn't there. After getting out at buffalo, I walked to the gate where I would catch my final flight of the day to Albany. I thought that it was a little strange that nobody was around. I walked around the Buffalo Airport (that didn't take too long) and I came back to my gate. There was still nobody there, but I sat down and waited anyway. Finally a gate attendant came up and asked "are you going to albany?" I replied yes. He said "looks like you are the only one on this flight. I had a Beechcraft 1900 all to myself. It was kind of creepy.
After an awsome stay in Albany (which included a night in Montreal) it was time to go back to hell, er..I mean Minnesota. There were a few more people on my flight to Buffalo from Albany. Once I was in Buffalo I began hearing rumors about a snow storm in Minneapolis. I was happy, because I had no desire to go back to school. But..they boarded us on time anyway, shut the door and taxid us out next to the runway where we sat for 45 mintues waiting for ATC to clear us to Minneapolis. Finally it happened and then we were off the ground. We get around Minneapolis and the captian comes on the intercom saying that we are going to have to circle for a while because a pilot reported bad landing conditions on the runway and they had to clear them...So we circled FOR AN HOUR!!! Anyway, we finally landed, (that was pretty scary). I couldent see anything out the window except for the snow rushing by the plane. Finally BANG we are on the runway sliding back and forth. After 15 minutes of taxiing at really really really slow speeds we got to the gate exactly the same time my flight to Grand Forks was supposed to leave. Luckilly I saw on the board that it was delayed and I'd have enough time to catch the flight. I walked to the gate and they announced that we would be further delayed because our plane had to go into maintnence. They told us to walk to a different gate. Once we got there, we sat around for about 30 minutes to find out that our new plane had a problem with its spoilers and we had to go to a different gate and wait for another DC-9 to get there from the hangar. Finally it got there and we left. I got another window seat. WE were supposed to land in Grand Forks at 10:02PM, but instead we arrived at 1:30AM. That landing was pretty scary too, it looked like the pilot almost hit the wingtip on the runway before the wheels did. IT was 14 and snowin like mad once we got to grand forks. Anyway, thanks for reading.. Did anyone else get the pleasure of flyin in that snowstorm?
