You may have remembered my post I put back in June on this same leg, but with a DC-10-30. Well as many of you are aware, CO has since replaced their DC-10-30's in and out of HNL with their 767-400's.
As I was looking forward to this flight, because it was the newer BusinessFirst seats (compared to the DC-10-30 seats), I arrived at HNL Intl for check in at 1:05p. My scheduled departure time was 3:25p. I proceeded to the BusinessFirst/One Pass Elite check in area where no waiting for check in was involved. After giving me my boarding pass, and tagging my luggages with priority handling tags, I was invited to the President's Club.
The security check point was a little long, but considering the time of day, moved at a good rate. Upon entering CO's President Club, I was invited to relax until it was time for boarding so I did just that. At 3:00p, I decided to board the aircraft and did so through door 1L, reserved ONLY for BusinessFirst passengers (this gate had two jetways w/ one boarding area for economy passengers). As I fly this route a lot, I was welcomed aboard by the flight attendants who have served me in previous flights and shown to my seat (7-L). I stood in awe as I walked to the last seat in the cabin.
The plane smelt like a brand new car, and the seats were out of this world! It felt more ergonomically designed for comfort. One thing I noticed on CO's 764's is that the announcements are automated. Who would have thought technology would get this far? The International Service Manager hardly does any talking any more.
At 3:30p, we pushed back from gate 13 and taxied to the reef runway. A nice touch CO has is that the flight attendants (one on each side) stand next to the forward movie screens during the safety demonstration. Finally, at 3:45p, we lifted off and turned 180 degrees in a south westerly direction for the 6 hr, 58 min. flight. Now the fun began.
After the captain gave the flight attendants the o.k., the meal service began. Hot towels were distributed with lunch menus following after. I chose the chicken for my entree. My flight attendant began w/ warm honey roasted peanuts and a drink of my choice. After, the appetizer consisted of smoked salmon loin served with creamed horseradish. My salad followed along with the hibiscus mango dressing I ordered. IMHO, the wheat rolls have got to be the best! I think I had seven of them on this flight.
For my entree, my chicken was served with shiitake mushroom rice, and grilled vegetables. You could imagine how full I was by this time, but the meal service was not finished! The flight attendants them came down the aisle with the cheese and dessert cart where I declined the cheese, crackers, and aged port wine, and went straight for the sundae. I chose caramel, whipped cream, and nuts to finish off this great meal. Believe it or not, 3 hours had already passed when the meal service was completed.
I then pulled out my television and got acquainted with it. All movie selections are shown in cycles, but games can be played all the time. Not really caring for the entertainment, I reclined my seat, extended my leg rest and slept for two hours. Upon waking up, my flight attendant was passing out freshly baked oatmeal raisin cookies along with milk. He gave me two cookies and instead of milk, I asked for another caramel sundae. It was HEAVEN!
About twenty minutes after this snack, the last meal service was offered before landing. It consisted of a turkey sandwhich, shrimp salad, an assortment of vegetable sticks, and mango (the sweet, orange kind). After this meal service was completed, we were 30 minutes out of GUM and it was time to descend and land. We touched down on GUM at 6:56p, arriving 9 minutes ahed of our scheduled arrival time. After landing, the automated announcements came on as we taxied to gate 9.
Another great flight. CO has an excellent business class product and to this date, I still rate it as the best. Upon exiting the plane, my bags came off the carousel first, I passed customs and was out of the airport in 15 minutes...not bad!
