Air Jamaica 58 ATL-MBJ
Airbus A310-300 "Spirit of Negril" (not sure of reg. #)
We got up at 5:30am, and left the Renaissance (spelling?) Hotel. On the shuttle, there was a DL MD-88 captain. I talked to him a little bit. Then, we checked in, went through security, and took the train to Concourse E. We got breakfast, and boarding began at 8:10am at gate E28, for the 8:50 departure time. We boarded, and took our seats. Mine was 31H. (I always wind up in the back on Airbus planes ) The seat was nice, and seemed new, although the armrest ahead of me had some damage. I flipped through "Sky Writings" magazine for a while. Before pushback, I noticed a rocking motion when they were loading the bags, which was really wierd.
We then pushed back, and the safety demonstration was done by the F/As, although there were projectors in the cabin. We taxied to Rwy. 26R, and took off. As soon as we got going, the F/As did the usual announcement about the seat belt sign, and why to keep it on while in your seat. They also talked about the plane, mentioning that it was an Airbus A310-300, which carried 216 passengers (they said.)
Then, the captain made his announcement. He said it would be a "smooth, routine flight." As soon as he got done, we hit some heavy turbulence at 35,000 ft. This lasted for 90% of the flight. We had breakfast, which was served, but they had to stop several times because of the turbulence. It consisted of 4 slices of French Toast, a pancake with cinnamon inside, a drink, a wheat bread roll, and a little box of fruit. After breakfast, Duty-Free shopping started. The cart came by, and I bought a deck of Air Jamaica playing cards. There was no in-flight entertainment, and it was a 2 hr. 16 min. flight. It continued to be bumpy, although it let up for about 10 min. south of Florida. We flew over Cuba, and started into MBJ. There were a ton of clouds, and, again, we hit heavy turbulence. I noticed rain as we went through them, and turned on to Final for Rwy. 7.
We landed, taxied to the gate, and walked down the ramp, and into customs/immigration. The airport is pretty nice, although as you walk through the terminal, part of the ceiling is lower than the rest.
Shaq would be hitting his head!
I enjoyed my flight with Air Jamaica. It met all my expectations, and I would fly them again if I had the chance.
