AA4889 Jan. 27

Mon Jan 28, 2002 3:15 pm

I just got back from a quick trip to New York City from Central New York- after driving 5 hours all night, and not wanting to repeat the experience two nights in a row, I decided to purchase a 1-way ticket back to Syracuse from New York City, so here goes:

1/27/02
AA4889 JFK-SYR
Saab 340B N313AE
Seat 3B

Having never tried the American Eagle product before, but having flown the Saab on two previous occasions and liking it, I was curious to see how this trip would be. For starters, there was no way I had to be 2 hours early for this flight- from curbside after getting dropped off to the gate took me 15 minutes!!! This was my first US domestic flight since 9/11 so it was a bit of a shock to see three National Guardsmen all with M-16s standing there at the security checkpoint. A sad sign of the times I guess.  Sad There was not much going on at T9 during my two hour wait for departure- just a pair of 767s sitting at their gates, so I went to gate 40C to wait. When it was finally called, and we got to the plane, the f/a asked the first few people who got on where we were all going to- THAT built confidence in our flight crew. But initial impressions aside, our f/a's name was Linda, and she was VERY friendly and did a great job. Once we got moving we taxiied out after the UAL Star Alliance 767 logojet which was very impressive up close. After departing on time from RWY13L at JFK we turned Northeast, and during climbout were treated to a magnificent view of Manhattan out the left side- a great view that made me proud to be a New Yorker. During the flight we were served drinks and two packs of pretzels, and got a nice surprise announcement from the flight deck that we would be 15 minutes early to Syracuse. We came in pretty hot on final, and as a consequence the pilots were very aggressive in their use of reverser and brakes. Still, it was a good flight- nothing special, but not terrible- the flight crew did their jobs, and they did them well. Once again, it was a wonderful S340 trip- thanks American Eagle.

Cool trip report. It looks as American Eagle is a very nice airline. Some years ago I flow also the Saab 340 but with Crossair. I always liked Saab Aircrafts, also the Saab 2000 is a very nice and fast aircraft. Does American Eagle has leather seats on their Saab aircrafts?

Swiss-airplane- Yes, I believe they had leather seats. I also flew the Saab 2000 with Crossair which I think was a bit more comfortable than the S340.

CV990A,
yes, the Saab 2000 is really comfortable. And Crossair offers a very good service and very comfortable seats. All in blue leather.
Cool that you travelled through Europe. I hope that you liked Europe and Crossair. As for me, I love flying to the USA.
greets

Swiss-airplane- yes, blue leather sounds right for the S340, but I don't remember the Crossair Saab 2000 having blue leather- I think it might have been grey leather, but still, it was an amazing aircraft on another great airline.
