AMS-WAW On LOT Business Class

Sat May 25, 2002 5:09 am

This is my second trip report and I apologize for my English!!!

AMS-WAW
LO 0266 seat 1A(business class Smile)
Boeing 737-500
10 may 2002

At 7.00 we (my mother and I) toke a taxi to AMS. We checked-in at desk 2 in Departure 1. At the same desk people checked-in for a TP flight to Lisbon. We got our boarding cards ......they were printed on a LOT paper Smile/happy/getting dizzy. Check in was efficient and fast. After this great experience Big grin we went through immigration and security screening. The security staffs, this time, were nice and they wished us a good journey. Because we had to wait 1 hour my mother went shopping and I went to the globe ground lounge. Nice lounge and very much to eat and drink. So I toke 3 cokes and watched some TV. After 40 minutes my mother came back with very much bags.....typical a woman Wink/being sarcastic. My mother toke some tea and we went to the gate. While we walked I saw very much planes:
-CX(A340) to HKG
-BA (737-400) to LHR
-IB (A321) to BCN
-KL (747-400,767,couple of 737's)
-TP (737-500) to Lisbon
-EI (320) to Dublin
-DL (777) to JFK
-AF (737) to CDG
-EK (747 cargo)
-SQ (777) to EWR
-LH (A320) to Frankfurt
-AZ (A321) to Milan Malpensa
And much more….
A KLM ASIA 747-400 had a smooth landing……oh I love to see that. I saw a SQ staff walking to a 747-megatop that flew to EWR and after that we saw another SQ staff walking to another gate for a flight to Changi. And the funny thing was that they spotted each other but they didn’t greet Confused. After this strange moment I saw the LO 735 at the gate, nice aircraft! The first announcement was that the flight was delayed for 10 minutes. 10 minutes later again an announcement, in Dutch, English and Polish, that business class passengers can go on board. And we did!!!!!!!J We were welcomed by a F/A and she showed our places. I must say the cabin was very nice with elegant blue seats and it looked very spacious. The F/A offered me a glass of orange juice and some peanuts on a little golden tray. Very elegant! I read the in-flight-magazine and the F/A offered me again something to drink. I took my fourth coke of that day and she served again a selection of little snacks. It looked very nice. The business class was very empty and economy too. Maybe that’s the reason why they served me a drink 2 times Big thumbs up. Then we taxied to runway 3 or 4, I can’t remember. On the TV screens they showed the safety instructions, clear and simple. The take off was heavy and smooth and I saw Schiphol from the air and it is a very big airport. Then the service started and they served the dinner. It was very good: French fries, some meat, a salad with dressing, a warm roll and a fruit salad. They also served a drink of course and champagne was possible but I didn’t take some cause my ageL. They showed on the TV screens some comics and TV programmes: FRIENDS Big thumbs up. After an hour and half they served some ice cream with fruitJ. After this the landing began. I fastened my seatbelt and looked at the window down. Nothing to see. After 15 minutes we arrived at WAW …I saw an Austrian Airlines F70, KLM 734, LOT 767,AF A320 and a LH A321. We left the plane and all the F/As were smiling at the exit and said: we hope you had a good flight. They were really nice!!!!

I conclude that this was an excellent flight. The service, food, crew and entertainment all!!  Wow!I heard LOT is becoming a Star Alliance member…..is that true?? Well if it’s true…..Star-Alliance will have a very good new member. I really love LOT

I hope you enjoyed my report and sorry for my English

Very nice report. As for the SQ crew not greeting each other, well, that's not very strange. It could be because none of them knew each other, or that they were too used to seeing other sets of crew around the world.

There's always a better way to fly...

I'd like to fly LOT one day. Thanks for the report, I enjoyed it very much. One question, though, how long was that flight? I was surprised that you got an actual meal, as I was under the impression this segment would take no more than one and one-half hours.

UALbrat,

This is europe  Big grin (and besides that Business class) so it is not amazing he got a warm meal.

Times are changing a lot and so is service which is getting more and more on the "light & cheap" side but still is no wonder you get a meal on most international flights within Europe. I saw even hot breakfasts in C class in a Spanish domestic flight of 50 min, so ... (or JK also offers a very nice cold one in those same segments in coach for example)

Cool report... don't worry about the English, I understood you!  Smile

You would realise that for a major international airline like SQ, think about the number of planes in its fleet (almost a hundred)... now picture the number of crew... by the hundreds, right? Hence, it is a lot of people so it is not surprising they didn't acknowledge each other as they were from different teams.

SQ also has this thing about attaching a member of one team to another team to improve interaction among its cohort of Flight Attendants (still known as stewards and stewardesses) - its called "guest starring". Therefore, it is not surprising to have a member of the team which they normally don't fly with!

LOT sounds like a v good airline. The last time I saw a LOT plane was in BKK back in 1987. It was a Russian plane (an Illyushin... I think) and it was my first time looking at one then! I remember gawking at the funny looking plane which looked so out of place among the Boeings and Airbuses... I was 13 then! Even the name seemed funny! LOT? A LOT? A LOT OF WHAT?... I later read more about the airline and the country and realised that LOT is not strange at all! It is actually the flag carrier of Poland! Ignorance is bliss... just like some people think that Singapore is in China!

Well, I am glad you had a good flight. Did the 737-500 have PTVs in Business Class? Or was it just the main TV that was shared by all in the cabin? Hmm... French fries for a meal in Business Class? This is something new... is it? You mentioned that the cabin was "spacious", so how many rows were there in the forward section of the aircraft?

Cheers and fly on!
Ryan

Ryan,
LOT was a couple of years ago strange in the world of aviation but now it's the most important East European carrier. They've won a lot of awards for their business class. There were no PTV's but for 2 seats 1 TV screen. It was different then in Economy class. And I remember there were in business class 5 rows and just 2 were occupated.
About the Illyushin.....LOT uses Russian aircraft now only for cargo. All European and Interconentinal flights are operated by Boeings.
Thank you for reading my report

Well, in fact LOT uses also 14 ERJ 145, 8 ATR-72 and 6 ATR-42 (the latter are owned by Eurolot- LOT subsidiary), and there are no Russian cargo planes in it`s fleet.
Cheers
