Vail/Eagle To San Fran On American

American Airlines
EGE(Vail)-SFO
Boeing 757
This was the beginning of my spring break. It was an evening flight that left EGE at 6:30. Having to arrive at the EGE airport an hour early is very easy to do. One security checkpoint is open but this is a very small airport. The waiting lounge is littered with leather sofa's and chairs. The personal service you get is amazing. American Airlines began boarding the 757 at 6:00. The flight was completely boarded after about 15 minutes.

The crew got on the PA system and welcomed the passengers onboard flight 2211. We pushed back from the gate as the head flight attendant started the safety video. The safety video took longer than usual. They had to restart it and once it finaly got going it had everything in Spanish and English. I was sitting in seat 12 F. As we were taxiing out to the runway I was amazed to see the number of private jets sitting next to the few hangers. There was even a private 727!

Taking off from EGE is very fun. EGE is surrounded by mountains. After leaving the runway an airplane must bank to the left to avoid a mountain. On our flight we banked left then right turning almost 180 degrees. I had a great view of the airport. We then began turning left again. When we finally levelled out the flight attendants began the drink service.

I had my laptop with me and quickly plugged it into the seat power outlet. I really enjoyed having the extra leg room on American as well as the laptop power. When the flight attendant arrived at my row, me and the gentleman next to me ordered our drinks. I order a Pepsi or Coke(don't remember who American uses). I also received the usual snack mix. This time it was some sort of cheese one. It wasn't bad. After finishing my snack I went back to on my laptop. I ended up watching Dumb and Dumber. Great movie. After the garbage was collected by the flight attendant's the Captain announced that we had begun our descent into San Francisco.

The descent was pretty routine. No hard turns or anything like that. It was really neat to be able to see the bay area from above at night. We landed the plane and made a quick taxi to the American terminal. I didn't get the gate number but after unloading from the plane the terminal was empty. All the shops were closed. I proceeded through the terminal and downstairs to collect my bag. I was amazed at how long it took to get the bags onto the carousel. It took nearly a half an hour. The time it takes to retrieve my bag doesn't really bother me. As long as my bag comes in!! After collecting my bag I proceeded outside to catch a bus.

Thats it for now. I will be posting the return trip soon.

Nice job.....strange to hear that you took this flight FROM Vail, since most folks seem to do just the opposite!

Johnboy,
I live near the Eagle airport and was able to get an extremely cheap flight only a week in advance through my work. The trip on the way back was completly full except a few seats. Ill tell you more about that in the return post when I get around to it. Glad you liked it.

CMK10, Thanks for clarifying the Coke and Pepsi. I couldn't remember for the life of me. I guess its time to start writing down notes on what happens since I can't do it all off of memory!

Actually, I think AA serves Pepsi. In fact, I know they do as I have had Pepsi several times on AA(they gave me the can). I think AA serves both.

Just out of curiosity, Dinker225, do you live in Avon or Edwards? I ski Beaver Creek once or twice a year and have been skiing at Beaver Creek since probably '91 or so when I was a little kid.

Do you know why they decided to move everything to the AA terminal instead of keeping the two terminals?

I always like the EGE takeoffs and landings.

Blink, I actually live a little farther up the road in Vail. I actually work for the ski resort that runs Beaver Creek and Vail.

I think when they built the new terminal it was big enough for every airline. Have you been in the new terminal? Its really nice with leather sofas and chairs! United only needs a few gates in the winter and so does everyone else. I know American has at least 2 gates. United didn't operate any 757's out of Eagle last winter for some reason. They still operate 3 roundtrips a day to and from Denver. Infact, I will be on one of these flights to Denver one week from tomarrow. I will be sure to post that trip report when I return in late June.
