Flight 3731 July 23, 2002
Dallas/Fort Worth International~~Departing 9:45 A.M.
Colorado Springs Municipal~~Arriving 10:47 A.M.
Canadair Regional Jet CL-600-100 LR

7:30 A.M. wake up alarm greets me, as I get up and prepare my bags for our 2 minute ride to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport or as I like to call it: "AAmerican LAAnd". Our flight left at 9:45 from gate E24 as I had checked on TravelNet before we left the house. We got to the Airport at 8:45 A.M. and rode the slow and boring train to Terminal E from the employee parking lot.
We emerged from the escalator and checked the Delta ticket counter, VERY full!! So we decided to check-in at the Delta Connection counter in the Satellite Terminal.

We waited through the quite long line at the security checkpoint, showed them our itenary, and proceeded to the Satellite Terminal for Delta Connection carriers ASA (Atlantic Southeast Airlines), Comair, and SkyWest. The Delta Connection counter was empty and we checked in.

By this time it was 9:30 A.M. and we got our boarding cards, since we were Non-Revs, I was going to be sitting in 5A on the SkyWest CRJ-600. We swiftly descended the stairs and walked through the cat walk to the sleek RJ waiting to take us to Colorado Springs.

I took advantage of the planeside valet, then forgot my camera was inside!!  Sad I also forgot to check the registration number. Hey it was early!! We were seated and began to roll back. We raced down the taxiway battling a American Eagle ERJ-145 for position, and lost. We were number 5 behind a American Eagle ERJ-145, American Eagle Saab 340, Delta 757-200, American 737-800. Behind us were a ASA CRJ, and a SkyWest CRJ.

We took off promptly and I settled in with the SkyWest Magazine for the 2 hr. flight. I took a Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and a Ginger Ale (Which was watered down alot!!) from the male flight attendant, who was very funny. During the Safety Demo he took the emergency air mask and placed it on one of the passengers!! This brought many laughs from the passengers on-board. I then lost track of time and before I knew it we were on landing approach.

Pikes Peak was in full view and we taxied to Gate 2, well almost. A SkyWest flight had come in late from Salt Lake City, and we didn't have a gate!! So we deboarded and walked in to the airport. What a awesome airport!!! I love this place!! I walked through the gift shop and bought a couple of postcards for family and my fellow friend Aviaar.

After spending the first part of the day at a aviation store..., which was awesome please visit it!! Here's the address(it's in Old City Colorado):

Aviation Heritage Collectibles
2513 West Colorado Avenue
Colorado Springs, CO 80904

...and in Woodland Park, CO it was time to head back to the airport. This time we checked in at the Delta counter and proceeded through security, so I could get some pictures of the planes. To my despise there were very few there. I had just missed a United 737-300, America West Express CRJ, and Continental 737-300. But I did get several shots of the plane that would take me home: N433SW, and a American MD-80.

We boarded through the jetway this time and I sat down in seat 10B. I met the man sitting next to me, he confessed that he was afraid of flying, and being the aviation lover I am, I assured him everything would be okay. The flight took off smoothly, but we hit immediate rough air and I thought this guy was going to have a heart attack. After this he fell asleep and I once again settled in with SkyWest Magazine. I took another Oatmeal Raisin cookie and this time I took a coke from the female FA. Our flight came in early to DFW, and we de-boarded picking up our bags and I took several more pictures planeside as other people deboarded. These will be some good pics!!

We entered the terminal once again and headed for the train to takes us back to our car.

Here's my critique of my travels:
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport:

Good Layout, Bad Train, Smooth Flights

Colorado Springs Municipal Airport

Awesome airport, great airlines, nice views

Delta Connection operated by SkyWest Airlines

Great Crews and service, well maintained planes, great airline!!

Glad you enjoyed SkyWest... I was through DFW the other day coming home from Toronto (eventual routing YYZ-ORD-DFW-SNA-SFO), and saw a couple of our planes while we were taxiing out to SNA... it felt like home  Smile
