Thanks for you very good trip report!!!
I recently flew dba on one of those 1-Euro-flights DUS-MUC-DUS on 21/7, and must say that despite being low-fare, they still keep some "class". Keeping the seat reservations is a good feature - I just hate the "cattle rush" at FR's boarding, that's one of the reasons why I won't fly them - and being able to check-in for your return flight later in the day is another service I hope they will keep. BTW - since I gave my credit card number at the appropriate booking option on the dba website, I was able to check-in at the BA check-in automates at DUS, where one can select his/ her own seat.
Prices for on-board drinks and snacks is very reasonable, with soft-drinks starting at 1,50 Euro and sandwiches at 3 Euro. Sweets and alcoholic bevarages are also available. During my flights, the on-board sale of articles went really well, there were at least 2 or 3 passengers per row purchasing items. BTW - seat load factor was about 90%
on both legs. That's amazing for domestic flights (but not really surprising considering the low fares)! I've heard that dba is breaking even when their planes are at least 75% full, although I cannot confirm right now, where I got this from.
Seat pitch and ergonomics is, as you said, very comfortbale and compares favorably to LH's economy seats.
I will continue to support dba as long as they keep these features and offer competitive prices (you can still fly DUS to TXL or MUC for about 65-80 Euro return). They offer very good value for money compared to Lufthansa, and being the little guy, they need all the business they can get. We all know how air fares look in markets where LH has a monopoly...
Oh, and maybe we had the same funny purser. The remark you told us about is very similar to one he was telling us during the safety announcement. Another one I can remember was "There are many ways out of a relationship, but only six lead out of this aircraft. Fair as we are, we marked these with the word 'exits'" ("Es gibt viele Wege aus einer Partnerschaft, aber nur sechs führen aus diesem Flugzeug. Fairerweise haben wir sie mit dem Wort 'exit' gekennzeichnet."
Hard to translate a funny remark from German into English, so it might have lost some appeal here...
Surely got the attention of the crowd! I've never seen LH flight attendants being both professional and funny.
P.S.: I'll be flying on dba again on 25/8, again DUS-MUC-DUS.
Maybe I will come up with a trip report about this, although I'm not promising anything here
