Stuttgart – Berlin Tegel
About four weeks ago I took advantage of a great offer by DBA. A roundtrip ticket within Germany was available for approximately 25 €.
So I decided to go to our capital for a day trip with a friend of mine and my parents.
We left for the airport at 08.30 for our 09.55 departure. Since we parked the car about 1 km away from the airport we eventually arrived at the airport at about 09.00. Went straight to the check in counters where a long line awaited us. Most of the folks were British Airways passengers, though. And there was only one lady checking in the DBA passengers.
Received our boarding passes after a while and proceeded to our gate 114. D-ADBR showed up and a few minutes later we boarded the “Sternschnuppe”. This was by the way exactly the same plane that I had flown on 3 months before, also to Tegel.
In the front of the cabin there was the new monthly DBA magazine and the little chocaolate hearts for take away. A nice crew greeted us and I settled into my seat 6F.
When boarding was completed, the crew offered everybody to change their seat as there were still some aisle seats available.
We pushed back at 10.00 and taxied to runway 07. We were number two behind an Air Alfa A300. Safety instructions were given and the cool male flight attendant was starting his jokes. He was a funny guy. I’ll give you some of his jokes. “Some bad news for smokers, smoking makes ugly, I’m the best example, so please don’t do it on board”.
Started our take-off run at 10.05 and shortly thereafter were on our way to Berlin. Weather was very nice in Stuttgart.
Made some left turns and climbed to flight level 320. About half way into the flight more and more clouds appeared in the sky and it got overcast. The crew announced it’s new service concept and started their snack/beverage service. You now have to pay for everything on board. A Vitel is 2.5 €, a beer around 3 €, sandwiches 3 €, …
I was surprised that quite many people bought something.
The legroom offered by DBA is pretty generous imho and I think the seats are pretty good. The flight was about 75% full.
After 45 minutes we started our approach into Tegel airport. It was overcast and when we got out of the clouds we were already on final approach for runway 09L.
Touch down was at 11.00 after a flying time of 55 minutes. “Ladies and gentlemen, others have not even left the ground we have already landed, yet again 10 minutes early”.
During taxi at Tegel I saw a Polish government Tupolev, the DBA in new colors, OS MD87, Freebird MD83 and other Lufthansa or DBA jets.
Taxied to gate 1 and left the plane.
Jumped into the TXL Expressbus and left for “Unter den Linden”. Had a fun day in Berlin although it was a bit chilly there. I got my loved Dunkin’ Donuts which I’m enjoying right now. Back at the airport I went to the visitor’s terrace and took some pictures. The entrance fee is 2 € but you have a pretty good view. A Luftwaffe A310 landed while I was there. I liked it.
For other Berlin visitor’s, there now is a Burger King at Tegel. Just in case you’re interested.
Berlin airport itself is small and everything is very cramped.

Berlin Tegel – Stuttgart
The airplane arrived 25 minutes before our scheduled departure time from Stuttgart.
Boarding started ~15 minutes prior to departure and this time I had seat 13E. Too bad I forgot to have a look at my return ticket when I got it in Stuttgart already. No more windows available. Oh well. The flight was about 85% full this time and I think there were many business traveller’s on board.
Settled into my seat and waited until boarding was completed. Asked a flight attendant if there were more pax to come but she told me just to wait a few more minutes because she didn’t know.
When the doors were closed I got up and wanted to move to the window seat just behind the exit row but another man was faster and I had to take the exit row seat. Only 2 seats are in this row which means that you basically do have a window, but it’s about half a meter away from you. Still good now.
We pushed back from gate 1 and taxied to runway 09L. Since we were number one for departure we entered the runway and started rolling. When we reached the “09L” mark, the pilot applied full power and a few seconds later we were out of Tegel.
The flight attendants started their service again. And yet again as on my last DBA flights there was a real cutie on board.
Took a few pictures of the cabin and out of the window and just enjoyed the flight.
Flying time was about 1 hour and as we approached Stuttgart the weather got better again.
We were coming in from the east and landed on runway 25. Taxied to our gate and left the airplane via a jetway.
Two Atlas Air 757s were parked here, along with Hapag Lloyd’s, a Condor and several Lufthansa and Eurowings airplanes.
In general a great trip to Berlin again, with good flights and a great deal, considering that the return flight only cost me 4.83 € total.
DBA is the way to go or as they call it “DBA – the clever way to fly”.
Hope you liked my report. I always appreciate some feedback.
