BOURGAS-BULGARIA On TU154M

Sat Aug 10, 2002 9:56 pm

Hi,
Message from Bulgaria (35 Degrees Celsius)

Flew in on Air Via TU154M (LZ-MIR).
Departure on time with no holding at 25R for departure. Steep climb above Brussels because of the noise-limitations and smooth flight on our way to BOJ.
Upon approach we had some turbulence but this was nothing in compare with the landing-pattern : plane made a steep turn (felt like the famous Kai Tak-approach in HKG) at about 1200m and kept on turning till about a 50m from the ground where it came back horizontal to put itself down on the landing-runway. Approach was not from over sea but from over land.
Upon arrival, following interesting planes : Air Via TU154 (3x)
Unknown white TU154
Air Slovakia 737-200
None of them were able to get photographed but I saw a small observation desk, so I will be there on Monday and Wednesday to see what can be photographed. Also to be noticed is a small museum on the outside of the airport where several planes can be photographed (AN2, AN12, T154 Balkan and some Migs). There is also a very splendid IL18 in old Balkan colors which I will try to photograph but the plane itself lies between trees.
To be expected on Monday 12.08 : Air Slovakia 737-200
Air VIA Several TU154
Hemus Air (3 TU154)
Unknown TU154 flight : KGD....
On Wednesday are expected : a few Scandinavian charters
a few Russian charters
Report will follow.
Have a nice day
Karl

Hey Karl,

Nice report!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I hope you get to see some nice birds on Monday.

How was the legroom and the load factor of the flight? Which food did you get served?

Anyway, great that you are still able to fly a good old TU154 from Brussels to Bourgas  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Enjoy the sun there, the weather over here is nothing  Sad

Best regards,
Frederic

Lucky you, I hope that I have some day also the chance to fly on a Russian aircraft. Enjoy your vacations in Bulgaria.

Hi Patrick!

Lucky you, I hope that I have some day also the chance to fly on a Russian aircraft.

Air Via has regular charter flights with it's TU154 from BRU to Bulgaria. It is charter, so I don't think you will pay a lot of money for the flight.

I once flew with a TU154 of Malev, and I have to say that it was a special experience!

I can't imagine that no airline(s) is flying with the TU154 to Frankfurt or Dusseldorf? I believe that even Air Sofia (I can be wrong) often uses the TU154 on its BRU-Sofia flights.

Regards,
Frederic

Hi guys,
Second (and last) report from Burgas.
Went to the airport today to see the Scandinavians but they leave early in the morning and return late in the evening. Flights scheduleded from Scandinavia were : 1 Falcon Air / 1 SAS / 1 Maersk / 1 Finnair so nothing really tremendous.
Russians planned on Wednesday : None but I mamged to see 3 BAC (Bulgarian Air Charter) / 1 Balkan Holidays (which I saw on Monday) and the usual VIA TU154.
So really not a tremendous day but what did I see (and photographed) on Monday : Air Via TU154 LZ-MIS -MIT-MIG
Hemus Air TU154 LZ-HMS
Hemus Air / Coloured Balkan Holidays : LZ-HMN -HMQ
Condor A320 D-AICJ
Private Swiss HS125 HB-VIL (repatriation of a patient).
All these stuff has been seen on Monday between 16.45 and 17.30. It looks like traffic at Burgas is very good in the morning and late afternoon. Otherwise this is a dead airport !
Regards and see you all in wetty Belgium !
Karl
PS : How are things about our Namibia flight to FRA ?

Sabena 690,
How was the legroom and the load factor of the flight? Which food did you get served?
==> Legroom : Row 20 near exit on the wing so plenty of space but the seats were poor quality.
==> Food : Let us not tqlk about this event. Cannot even describe.

Just arrived at home this afternoon.
Finally found the time to see some planes from the excellent observation desk.
What did I see during the 20 minutes spent :
2 Air Via T154 LZ-MIS/MIR(our plane)
4L-AAR PRIVATE YAK42
OM-AAB SLOVAK AIRLINES but flying for Balkan (named "Milo")
RA-42388 CHELYABINSK YAK42 (NICE ONE)
Regards, Karl
Have 10 safety cards of this aircraft. Always in for a change for another one so, just let me know it by personal email.

Hey ILS, that brought back memories of my one and only trip on a TU154 - London-Budapest (and return) in 1988 with Malev.

I don't suppose they allow smoking on board (and no bad thing IMO) any more but back then the policy was smokers to the right of the isle and non-smokers to the left  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Also, the overhead luggage bins had no doors.

Another thing that was apparent, there was no emergency oxygen so sudden cabin depressurisation = asphixiation  Nuts
