I booked this flight about 2 months ago,it cost about ??50.00 inc tax.

Having flown with Buzz and Go I thought it was about time to try out Eastjet.and I needed to get some spotting in at AMS!

Saturday 31/8/02
737-33V - G-EZYK - 2F
Departs 0610

Having had no sleep at all I drove to LGW from my house in slough.I turned my car in and advised i'd be back about 2130 to get another.

Found the Easyjet check in and waited about 5 minutes to check in.Easyjet board in groups of 30,I was number 31 to be checked in so I would board in the second group.

Went through departures to get something to eat and a paper, there were people everywhere.

Most of the very early flights were charter flights, the gates being full of JMC,Excel,Britannia and Monarch flights.

I gave up on food and a paper and went straight to the gate when it appeard on the screen.

Boarding started on time at 0540 and I managed to aquire seat 2,however as the flight was about 95% full, the seats next to me filled up.

I know we pushed back on time but cannot remember anything until we touched down in AMS,boy was I out for the count!

We arrived on time, just had to wait a couple of minutes for the jetway to move into place.

I headed off the plane and found a coffee shop, had a Double Expresso,a donut and headed out for some much needed spotting.

Saturday 31/8/02

Departs 2050

I checked in and managed to be the first person to check-in for the flight-Result!

Headed through passpost control and had a bite to eat in the 'Golden Arches'.

Headed around the Tax Free area, picked up a bottle of Jim Beam and some D&G.....I got'a smell ok...right!?

Headed down to the gate,D12,then went off to spot a few more planes.

Went back to the gate, which was quite full now and noticed the plane had still not arrrived. The plane finally arrived at 2050,I knew it was going to be the same plane as it had been on the route the whole day(I hate that!).

Boarding started about 20 minutes late, the staff made no announcement of the delay which was quite poor.Managed to get the same seat as outbound that morning.

Pushback was at 2120 local time,we took off some 10 minutes later.

I managed to stay awake for about 10 minutes to check onboard service, seemed ok,the flight was 100% full, then fell asleep.

We touched down at LGW ontime and arrived at the gate about 5 minutes later.

For £50.00 for a same day return you can't complain. The plane was clean on both sectors and FA's polite.

Would I use them again?.....yes,however with BA's new lower fares it's more convenient for me to use LHR for just a few pound more and get food and drink thrown in too.

I have 2 more spotting trips this month, both day returns with BA,FRA and CDG.I'll post them over the next couple of weeks when i've done them.

If anyone is interested I made 100 new plane's on this day trip.

Any questions?...please feel free to ask.

No questions; thanks for the report. I myself flew EZY yesterday LTN-EDI round-trip, 737-700, for 30 pounds total.

I found them to be excellent, and will certainly fly them again, although I do agree that BA's new fares, coupled with LHR's convenience, might mean that some European flights (especially those not covered by LCCs) will be flown with them.

Very nice report. I was in Slough two years ago, there didnt seem much to do their but the train station was nice. Did you see any DC-10's at AMS, and does EasyJet offer food at all?

Yes,I saw several DC-10's whilst at AMS,1 belonged to Das Air Cargo, all the others were Northwest planes.

I hav'ent been to AMS for about 10 years, hence making 100 new planes.I was quite surprised to see so many NW planes,3 744's,2 742's and at least 4 different 10's.

Eastjet offers food/snacks out of their 'Easy Kiosk',here are a few examples.

Blueberry Muffin - £1.50 or 2 euro's 50.
Sandwiches - £3.00 or 5 euro's
Lemonade 150ml - £0.60 or 1 euro
Kit Kat - £0.60 or 1 euro
Coffee - £1.50 or 2 euro's 50.

In addition to the large NW prescence,sat/sun at AMS have a large number of Turkish charter airline flights,I saw.......

5 Pegasus 738/734's
2 Onur Air AB3
1 Air Anatolia 752
1 Air Alfa 320
3 Turkish Airlines 738's

Urgh, Easyjet on board catering prices are real high ! in any case in pair with airport prices, or perhaps even more expensive. How do they compare with other "low cost" carriers ? I really don't understand how they can't manage to offer "low cost" prices for their onboard offerings - wouldn't it lead to a higher revenue because of more sales ?

Taichen, all LCCs sell food & drink for higher-than-average prices.

This is because they know that most pax have little choice but to purchase food & drink on board, if they get hungry or thirsty (and many are still not bringing their own food/drink with them).

Since pax have little choice, they buy the food/drink, even if it is more expensive than usual-so the airline has no reason to lower the price-and besides, from what I've seen, plenty of pax on my Ryanair flights continue to purchase ridiculously expensive sandwiches.....I bring my own, or eat at the airport.

Yes, they make lots of money out of in-flight sales.......

In any case, no one is forcing me to buy any of their food or drink, and the fare thankfully doesn't include the price of refreshments......
