MyTravel Airways DC10-10 TFS-MAN

Tue Oct 22, 2002 5:59 pm

Well time to come home...
Scheduled Departure Time from TFS: 16:50
Actual Departure time: 17:37
A/c Registration: G-TDTW

I arrived for my flight home at TFS at 2:25, checked in quickly before moving through to departures. From there, a great view of the ramp could be seen. I seen a CC 742 also going to MAN, Lots of Air 2000 752s, Excel 738s and 762, JMC 753, 752 and 320 A.c. MyTravel with a 763 flight to Glasgow amongst other things. Highlight of the day though was a Dormodedova For this flight I got seat 3K, a window seat  Big thumbs up
Departure was later than expected but the DC-10 once again took to the skies with ease  Smile
I watched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" on the TV and after that finished, I listened to the radio.
Food was absolutly gorgeous again, for a change, 2 flights in a row with good food  Big thumbs up
Flight attendants were brilliant once more, and my seat was pretty comfy too  Smile
Route was depart from TFS runway 8, before turning north, heading over Portugal, Santiago, Bay of Biscay and Southern England before decending into Manchester. Cruise was at 36,000ft.
Descent into MAN was nice as it was night time, and we got a tour of MAN as we headed past the airport to the north before turning right and coming round the city before landing on runway 24R at Manchester.
It was pretty quiet at MAN, in terms of pax numbers as it was 21:20pm when we landed, 15 minutes later than scheduled, so we made up a lot of time en-route.
However, it took over an hour to get our bags back, which was a major disappointment for me, as I thought they could and should have done it quicker. Some parts of T1 also looked like a building site >> Sad
Anyway, hope you've enjoyed this trip report and any questions, just ask me  Smile

Food: 9/10
Flight attendants: 10/10
Seat Comfort: 9/10
Flight: 8/10 (odd patches of Clear Air Turbulence)

Overall: 9/10

Another good report. If you've been on JMC, are MyTravel better than them?

Never been on JMC sorry  Sad
I'd rate MyTravel as good as Monarch though, if not better.

Good report, only flown MYT/AIH to florida, in 97' which wasn't the best flight i've ever had but i've flown MAN-TFS many a time on the likes of JMC, MON, LEI and Monarch is the best i've experienced with JMC being pretty good to. You probably flew over my house on your approach into MAN judging by your route description  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Hi Graham

I'm glad your I/B flight was also good, it's a shame you didn't get chance to come home on one of the other DC10's in the fleet as TDTW is generally considered to be our least favourite (although at the moment, from a pax point of view you probably wouldn't notice much difference between the a/c).
Ground handling at MAN is a total disgrace - always. How they can call them selves a world class airport is beyond me. All our ground handling partners know exactly what time we are due to land (even if we make it in early!) because every office at the airport has screen with all arrivals/departures listed including Airline, A/C type, Pax Figure, No.of special requests ie wheelchairs, A/C Reg, Allocated stand number, Estimated time of arrival, then actual time of arrival, then taxi time. Despite this nearly every flight, we park up on stand to find there is no one in sight to attach the airbridge/there aren't enough steps to spare us any/steps brought to a/c only to discover they are not big enough for DC10. Baggage handlers take ages to arrive, when they do access to the cargo holds is blocked by all the Servisair cleaning vans/Fuelers etc that have parked their vans in the way. My Mum & Dad recently flew back from REU with MYT, had a great flight and landed a full hour early! They then had to wait an hour and a half for their cases to appear at baggage reclaim. If it's any consolation, it takes just as long to get the crew suitcases off (usually longer), which is really what you want after a 10 hour I/B longhaul!

By the way I have sent a private message also

Take care

Kestral

I flew Airtours twice to the UK from Sydney when you used to fly here and I was throroughly impressed. In fact I recently flew Lufthansa and thought they were shit and that Airtours was heaps better. True you don't get free drinks and the seats are a bit tight but the FA on Airtours were great ( much nicer than LH) and the food was better.

Now you got me all jealous, I've always wanted to get on a MYT DC-10 but could not find enough schedule information to book a flight, so I opted for the 763 option with BY. I hope the DC-10's stick around a bit longer, I love seeing a little bit of history each time I go to EGCC. I agree that the DC-10 is a nice plane to fly on, I managed to get on a UA -10 in 99 and loved every minute.

i actually work for servisair @man and mailny look after MYT flights. its nice to see a good report on MYt at last. Iv always found thier staff so friendly towards us compared to otherb charter airline crew @man and its so true what kestrel says about pax complaining all the time I know us ground staff dont take as much flACK as the crew but boy when theres a delay do we have grief! also they can be vile to us at other times. Would love to chat more to kestrel
