Ok, have to get from Sydney to Adelaide, and company is prepared to pay for Business Class - fare is $A622.92, and I will get 1270 points (as a QF Gold member) and 30 status credits - I decide that this is not enough.
Rebook flight to the following:
QF 0779 J 27OCT SYD CBR
QF 2675 J 27OCT CBR MEL
QF 0699 J 27OCT MEL ADL
The end result? Each of the flights is less than 1000 miles, so I get the 30 status credits for each sector (90 status credits in total) as well as 1250 miles for each sector (minimum points in PAID J per flight stage) as opposed to 1270 points (725 miles from SYD to ADL, plus 182 point bonus for travelling in J, plus 363 point bonus for being Gold).
The end result? 3750 points, 90 status credits, as opposed to 1270 points, 30 status credits, and all for $7 extra (CBR taxes, apparently).
Now, onto the details......
QF 779 SYD-CBR
Pretty standard 737 service, mid-afternoon, they kept on filling up my wine glass, and I did not want to be rude and refuse......
Food was pretty non-descript, but then at 1500, I don't want much.
Got to CBR, proceeded to the lounge, realised I had about an hour or so, got onto the (free) grog, mainly the Crown Lagers, and waited for the flight to board.
Heard a boarding call, and then went to:
QF 2675 CBR-MEL
This was a BAe 146, don't remember a thing though, since I had consumed a stack of grog at the SYD lounge, on board the flight to CBR, and at the CBR lounge - in fact, I slept the entire way to MEL, they had to wake me up on arrival. Proceeded to Qantas Club at MEL on arrival.
QF 699 MEL-ADL
this flight was superb - the crew could not have been more helpful. Mineral water was served prior to departure, and drinks orders were taken just after the seat belt light was switched off (I ordered a bourbon and dry) - these were delivered quickly, and then dinner commenced.
Dinner conssted of a delicious braised lamb with rice, and was one of the better meals I have had on board an aircraft. I partook of the Chardonnay, and it was superb. Dessert was a Mango dish with ice-cream.
Overall, not bad for a 65 minute sector.
