ZRH-CGN-VIE-BRN ("no-frill", 4U, 3L)

Sat Jan 11, 2003 6:43 am

On 7th of january I woke up early in the morning (5:20 am. *brrr*)
leaving the house short time before six for catching the bus I recognized that it began it snow, well after ten minutes or so the surrounding was white !
So you could imagine what I expacted this time for my flight to CGN but I was comletely wrong ( for this part of the journey !)
Bus and train as well was nearly on time (what happened ?!) and I arrived at Zurich airport short time after seven O' Clock.
check In was done by swissport and I was a lucky guy aehm lady with sequence number 95 I've gotten a (proper) boarding pass which indicated that the seats are FREE.
passing passport control and security without any problems (except that they putted my coat without any box on the roll - it looked like that afterwards)
and boarding was only a few minutes (not to mention) delayed.
Germanwings (4U 707 ZRH-CGN) boarding by bus (two busses) but when the bus arrived nearby the plane the pax from the incoming flight where leaving the plane at THIS time (so you could shorten the turn arround, but without joke it was because of the bad weather).
afterwards the boarding itself was like ryanair (who has the best working legs will reach the best place, I had gotten 2A  Smile/happy/getting dizzy)))))
the crew played while taxiing, we wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year, as well as - which fitted very well this day - let it snow ....) - also because of the bad weather, but landing in CGN was nearly on time
on board I had a cofe and a juice both at a very, very suitable price
afterwards I went to down-town Cologne with the airport shuttle bus (would be worth to describe longer, but maybe I will post it later)
(unfortunatly no check in desks where opened when we arrived so i was definitly unable to check in for the return flight)
on second leg of the journey (4U 756) I checked in relativly early and had gotten a card number for the first part (but in CGN handicaped people and families could board before the rest), as the flight before very, very well booked (but I choosed 2F  Smile/happy/getting dizzy and had a sandwhich and a beer (as well at a suitable price) - well forgotten to mention it we had gotten a slot after boarding of half an hour but we began our descend to vienna nearly on time (only this, because we had gotten no clearing for landing)
and had nice an hour over vienna (I expected that the pilot would land in Bratislava or Graz after this hour but then the let us land in vienna and everybody had gotten a chocolate bar afterwards  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
I had two nice days in vienna and surrounding (at minus ten degrees and permanently snowing - well, our taxiway would be worth to decribe longer, too, for me it was like landing in Moscow at 07th of january and leaving alaska today, but I'm sure both times it was vienna international).
and today I had my flight back with InterSky VIE-BRN and I've to admit great little austrian airline (but not AUA !!!!)
boarding only 10 minutes late (wasn't normal in VIE today) well take off little bit more late but arrival in BRN at a very suitable time, prices for food little bit higher than germanwings (tkt too) but with newspapers and refreshing tissue and very, very friendly familiar crew (if I understand the pilot right Marianne und Petra Schneider)  Smile/happy/getting dizzy (I bought first a sandwhich and a coffee and afterwards I liked to have a glas of whine and had gotten some peanuts for free, too)
(and I met an old school friend never seen ages ago at the airport and her flight to LHR war canceled / OS and she was rebooked to the next OS flight 5 hours late and had gotten only an busness upgrade, no voucher, no lounge access, no money and no rebooking on BA which would indicate only a delay for her of 2 hours ...)

more tomorrow (I think there is a more than a little bit missing, for example a link or decription for the funny 3L tkt  Wink/being sarcastic in german we would say they are expecially nice but a little bit "schrullig" ....)
Ciao Ju(-mbolino -tta)

PS: sorry for any mistakes but I was "on the road/in the air" since 11 a.m. ....
Kind Regards, Jutta.

Hi Ju!

Excellent trip report, I enjoyed reading very much! Very funny that the incoming passengers where leaving the plane when you boarded it, I never had a similar experience, even not on Ryanair.

PS: Thanks for your SMS today!

PS 2: Did you finally found a cheap flight to SYD yesterday?

Hi Patrick,
first thanks that you enjoyed my report  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
PS: you're welcome !
PS2: not on the net, but the day after he did what I recommened him and called the airlines which could fit for his puposes and had gotten a special (good) fare with OS (I think a youth fare - he is "only" 18 and wanted to go to school there, therefore he was that late for booking because the director of the school he had choosen send him the paperwork a little bit late ...)

and for all the others, what was worth to mention too
on both airlines 4U AND 3L all seats in leather (and InterSky Dash - 8 had a very fine, really expensive looking leather, the "Läusefänger" aehm headrest didn't fit to the expensive seats at all ... my personal opinion, of course.
and boarding in VIE for 3L was done by OS staff, they asked me where I like to sit and I had choosen last row window (14A), the guy looked at me if he'd never heard a wish like this  Wink/being sarcastic
and the flight itself was very enjoyable, leaving VIE at 15:30 (take off) directly over the alps in an little prop - great everywhere snow on the alps and the evening sun the last hour prior landing looked like the alps in a fire (snow and red evening sun - unfortunatly I had no camera to make a pic :-( :-(
and airport BRN - since yesterday I thought INN is a provincial airport, but BRN beat them at all ! (little house with only one backage belt for all and this one looked like it was built approximatly 50 or more years ago  Wink/being sarcastic
Kind Regards, Jutta.

Thanks for this trip report, Jutta! I especially liked the InterSky part of the report, must have been fun! As you know, I prefer the Dash8 (and Saab2000, too) over the ATR  Big grin and I also like to sit in the last row, so you can be sure I'm a little bit jealous of that trip (and I can confirm, there are really not many passengers who ask for the *last* row, but many who aks for the *first* row).

ps: Those InterSky tickets look great!!

Nice trip report.
I agree with you, Bern airport is very.. special.. It the closest airport from where I live (except Sion) but I've never flown out of Bern. I think it must be very nice... I hope to try Intersky one day...

Question what will they buy first:
1) a second aircraft
2) a ticket printer

we will see
