Frontier A319: MSY-DEN-MSY

SUNDAY, 2/16/03

I wasn't scheduled to work on Sunday the 16th; however, since our afternoon flight to Denver was nearly booked to capacity, I volunteered to come in early and help out, and then, hopefully, get a seat on the flight to DEN. I had a new hire orientation to go to the next day at the headquarters.

So, since I had already packed my small carry-on and laptop, I got to MSY at about 12:15pm and put my stuff in the back office, clocked in, and then went up to the counter to help check passengers in.

Before I knew it, it was 1:45, and I made my way to gate C-3, bypassing the longgggg security line. Flight 738 from DEN was due in at 1:51pm, a little early, which is always nice to see, especially when the load's are very heavy. Sure enough, she did reach the gate at that was our "Killer Whale" A319, the jet which I flew from DEN to SEA last summer. After everyone deplaned, myself and another agent ran on the plane, helped spruce it up a tad, then we started boarding. I got on last, but I had a good seat: 17F.

Flight 577, A319 service from MSY to DEN to SLC, pushed back ontime at 2:45pm, and we were airborne at 2:49pm, with 129 out of the 132 seats occupied. The flight was a great one. The 319's are very comfortable aircraft. And that DirecTV system is very nice...makes the time fly by. I enjoyed a whole can of Diet Sierra Mist (F9 always gives pax a whole can), and just relaxed as our Airbus cruised to Denver. Total flight time was 2h20m from takeoff to touchdown. We parked at gate A36.

MONDAY, 2/17/03

After spending a fairly restless night at the Fairfield Inn/DIA, I walked over to headquarters for the orientation. It was a whole day ordeal, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. We got to learn alot about the company and its procedures, and I was very impressed by how personal and friendly all the employees were. They are certainly a class act.

I walked back over the the hotel, got my bags, and the shuttle whizzed me over to DIA for about 5:00pm. I checked in as soon as I arrived, just to save time, then I proceeded to go get some dinner before my flight. No train this time...I used to walkway from the mail terminal to concourse A...and I must say, it was a breeze....I will do that again.

Flight 738 to New Orleans boarded promptly at 7:00pm for its 7:25 departure. It was a light load this evening, which is good cause I was kinda tired and wanted to stretch out and relax. They must have had a little more than 40 passengers on board. The aircraft had a majestic horse on its tail and winglets. We taxxied very quickly to our runway, and we were airborne shortly thereafter. Flight time to MSY was an even 2 hours from takeoff to touchdown thanks to a strong tailwind. I had a couple of cans of soda and watched another show on the oh-so-strange Michael Jackson. The Airbus performed really is a superb aircraft...easily the nicest narrowbody flying today, from a passenger's point of view.

And home and went to sleep!

Question for the other airline employees here:

When you non-rev out on a flight you work, do you go through security or just hop on? At our airport, every airline seems to have a different policy on this matter. The only thing everyone agrees on is that flight crew operating the flight may bypass security.

Personally, I voluntarily go through the TSA rigmarole -- just to be safe. I like my job  Wink/being sarcastic

At MSY, we have to go through security...of course, we can bypass the huge lines, but they want us to play it safe. Now there are times when we can just go on the ramp from the bag room without going through the checkpoint, but usually, we need manager approval or something like that. Our gate is so close to our ticket counter that it's quicker to go through security actually anyway.
