On Saturday morning, I woke up in the early morning to get ready pack it up my clothes. I feed the my cats. I got to the CTA train to the airport 2 hours before departure. I checked in kiosk and it was quick drop off my luggage off. The checkpoint was not bad at all! It was really quick! I ate lunch McDonald before my flight leave. I went to the cockpit and pilots were friendly. The flight route would be to Pocket City (Evansville) to Nashville then Rome, Ga descent to Atlanta. It would be at 29,000 ft. I sat on 18A. It took off on runway 9L. It was smooth cruise flight. When descent to Rome and the plane made circle holding pattern once. I saw Atlanta airport pass by and then approach left turn to runway 27L. It was good flight. My connection flight to Los Angeles on Delta #459 gate T2 from arrival gate A5. Not far to connection. I did not want to take train connect concourse. I walked underground tunnel take my time.

This is my first time on B767-400 for the long haul flight. It is my 5th time on B767-400. Thanks goodness that Delta gave frequent flyer for promotion triple miles between ATL and LAX/ONT/SNA. I got triple miles. It was great! I went to the cockpit chat with the pilots and it was friendly. The flight route would be Atlanta-Birmingham, Columbus,MS, Texarkana,AR, Wichita Falls, Amarillio, Albuquerque, Drake, Hector then arrival LAX.

I saw a huge thunder clouds over north Texas. Pilot had to detour route between Texarkana to Wichita Falls. It was a little turbulence time to time. It wasn’t that bad. I saw flew over Albuquerque. A few minutes later, I noticed a huge white smoking from the field. I can see from 35,000ft that huge orange/red fires along field from spread black burned. I don’t know what was happen there. I have binocular and see the fires there. It was pretty much cloudy and not enough time to watch the fires.
When It was about 40 minutes due to arrival. I saw a clear British Airways B747-400 climbing out of LAX to LHR to west bound near Needles,AZ. It was British flight #282. It came down to descent to Los Angeles it was awful cloudy. I could not see any Los Angeles until under 4,000 ft overcast and I can see Los Angeles downtown toward to runway 25L. It was smooth landing. This is my first time in Los Angeles airport. It looks so narrow between taxiways and runways. Also ramp terminals are tighten narrow. The Delta 767-400 had to stop before into the gate 52. The tow connects the nose and move to the gate 52 arrived real slowing. It was interesting. I went to the Alamo rental car. My god, it looks like a long line wait up check it out. It took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to get the rent a car. I noticed one of the family father, mother and adult son at the check up with agent took about 20 MINUTES! Why the earth took too long problem with that? My rental car have no problem with processing less than 4 minutes to get done contract. I can’t believe this why the problem take 20 minutes for take their rent a car. Duh! Anyway, I got the rental car ticket and get the car parking lot number. I noticed the car is white Dodge Intrepid 2003. I sat down and start the engine. I can smell fresh like new car and saw odometer is 1 mile. I checked odometer button if it is trip or regular mile. It is regular mile. Wow, this is my first time ever rental brand new car. Ha! Of course, I bought a new car my own Honda with 2 miles on it before. I drove into freeway and got off the in Hollywood. I couldn’t find the exit Gower St. I found it and I couldn’t get there where my friend lives there. The gave me the direction was incorrect. I asked a guy who buys gas pump. I asked him and he gets his map street and found that street is one way and you have to go next street around then get there. My friend lives in Hollywood where the street are up the hill curves roads! It is so hard to find it. I found his place. Next morning, my friend and I drove a few minutes and park there where Hollywood Lake located. I walked on the dam. I saw a huge sign “Hollywood” on the mountain side. It was cool! On Sunday night, we went to his friend’s birthday party. I got a bad news called from my neighbor that one of my cat got ill. My cat isn’t moving and eating at all. She took my cat to the vet emergency. I was shocked that my cat had a liver infection. The doctor had no way to help her, My cat had a lot of pain. I told her wait until I get home Tuesday night. Doctor said no it will cost more a few days. She is not feeling good and should put her sleep soon. I was very upset and feel awful not being with her and say to good bye. I gave permission to put her sleep. I was cried and upset about it. My friend was comfortable with me for a while. I have other cat who is same litter. She was almost 9 yr old. Monday, we had party dinner for his friends come at my friend’s house. We had a good time. I was okay and very hard to patience about my cat passed away. On Tuesday morning, I am leaving home to Chicago flight on afternoon from LAX. I went to Burbank airport to see how it looks like small airport and then I drove all the way to LAX it was pretty bad traffic but I have plenty of time ahead of my departure flight. I arrived Delta terminal within 2 hours ahead. It wasn’t that bad line up with Kiosk and drop of my luggage and went to security checkpoint quick through. My flight Delta to Salt Lake City. Then connection to Chicago.

I went to the up front flight deck. It was friendly two pilots chatted with them. I went to sat on 35A. We took off on runway 25R and climb out over the pacific. The funny thing is LAX is clear. When you fly over the beach it was overcast clouds. It climb out for a few minutes west and turning left around to LAX over the airport. I can see clear Los Angeles. I caught the Hollywood Lake where my friend lives there. I can see sign “Hollywood” there. A few minutes later, I found Victorville airport below me. I saw a hundred of abandoned aircraft lines up. It was amazing. It flew over Las Vegas. I should have done see right side aircraft to see Hoover Dam I forgot to look at it. Oh well.. Arrive Salt Lake was smooth to runway 34R. My plane arrived gate D3 and my next flight gate is D5. This is my first time fly on MD-90. I have flown MD-88 before.

I went to the cockpit and ask to see pilots. Captain got off his seat. He told me you may sit down there. I said oh ok thanks. I sat down and chat with F/O for a few minutes. It was nice of two pilots to let me into seat captain. It was cool. I sat down on 18E right window. Not bad view. It was pretty quiet but it is almost same as MD-88. MD-90 has powerful engines than MD-88. It took off runway 34R pretty slightly long rolling take off because of high attitude. Climb out straight until Ogden airport turning right eastbound to Chicago. The route to Rock Springs, Scotts Bluff, Sioux City, Ft Dodge, Dubuque, Janesville then arrive Chicago. It was smooth flight. It was almost sunset upon arrival runway 9R. It came touchdown pretty smooth. I got off the plane and told captain Thank you very much. I went to home on train CTA and pick me up somewhere station to take me home. It was a long trip. Delta services are excellent for my whole trip!

I was sad about my cat passed away when I was in LAX. It wasn’t good time at all. I want to go back LAX someday with an extra few days stay. All I want to drive to Victorville to see old planes grounded. I want to go to see Malibu, too. Thanks for reading long story.

Nice report!

Sorry to hear about your cat; it's always rough when a pet passes away. My sympathies.

Glad to hear you liked LAX. For a US airport, it's about as 'international' as they come (except for maybe MIA, SFO and JFK.) It does have a great mix of airlines/aircraft though.

How did you know the routing of the planes? did the pilots tell you or did you have an airways map.

I asked pilot where the route will be on. He showed me his flight report plan print out. I can look it up it tells you where the route would be on. Yes, I do have airway routes map. You can ask anything to pilots so the pilots will be glad to tell you anything. Delta pilots are excellent attitude and friendly.

Hey Stuart! Glad we got to talk over AOL instant messenger today! I'm so sorry to hear about your cat.  Sad I have 5 cats of my own and I know very well how sad it is to lose one of them, especially if you have to put them down. Sorry again!

Great report though! I wish I could go on a longer flight than 2 hours some day! TTYL!
