Seattle To Belize On American

Wed Jul 09, 2003 2:00 pm

I have been meaning to write this trip report for a long time and now I have finally gotten around to it…

Last March over spring break I, with a group of my friends, went down to Belize. Hopefully my memory and notes are decent enough to tell you all about my flight to and from there.

At around 7:45 p.m. we loaded up and pulled out of Spokane WA for the 5 hour drive to Seattle. We chose not to fly to Seattle because that would have been a couple hundred dollars more and we didn’t feel like spending the money. We arrived in Seattle really early and since the ticket counter didn’t open until 4 a.m. and nothing else was open we just put our stuff down and sat around until the counter opened up.
At 4:30 we decided to go through line and head down to our gate. When I placed my luggage on the scale it said that it was 15 pounds over weight. I knew that this couldn’t be correct because I had weighted it before we left. Luckily the scale was off and I didn’t have to pay extra. We went to our gate and before long we were loading. The flight departed at 6:06 a.m.

The first thing that I noticed when I reached the door of the plane was the TWA titles. I thought that it was pretty neat to be flying on a former TWA plane. The plane seemed more comfortable than American’s 757s.

The flight departed on time, but unfortunately I didn’t get to sit by any of my friends, instead I got put beside a man who had rather bad body odor, and since the flight was full I couldn’t change seats. At least I had a window seat and not the middle though. A meal was served on this flight, but I don’t remember what it was. I don’t really remember any thing about this flight because I slept through most of it. I do however remember the movie that was played, one that I had never heard of, “Kevin of the North”. Has anyone here heard of it?

We landed on time and we headed to our next gate. We had less an hour layover at Dallas so we headed straight to our gate.

The flight loaded and departed on time at 12:46 p.m. I once again had the window seat, but this time I got to sit by one of my friends and that makes flying a lot more fun. There was no meal service on this flight, but I wasn’t expecting any. The in-flight entertainment was the typical CBS Eye on American. I didn’t watch it because I was talking to my friends, and enjoying the flight. I love flying over the Caribbean Sea because it is so beautiful. The flight landed on time in Belize Cities nice little airport. Customs was somewhat interesting because someone had a seizure while we were inline and all the customs agents went to help so everyone else go by really quickly. I felt bad for the person, but hey, it got us through customs quickly...

Belize is a very nice little country. We took a day and went to Guatemala, which is not near as nice as Belize. I didn’t realize that Guatemala considers Belize to be part of Guatemala until I was down there and looked at a map of Guatemala at the Guatemalan border. It showed Belize as being a Guatemalan territory, but the rest of the world recognizes Belize’s independence. Too bad for Guatemala.

While in Belize the war in Iraq started and we didn’t really have much access to news so we all were somewhat worried about that. The only things that we were hearing were word of mouth and we all got the impression that the United States was loosing the war, but when we got back into the U.S. we were shown that the United States was actually winning the war.

After checking in and going through security I did some last minute souvenir shopping around the airport. The flight boarded on time, but departed about 15 minutes late. I unfortunately had a middle seat. I was tired, but sleep didn’t come to me easily. I did some reading and watched a bit of Eye on American. I took some time to chat with the flight attendant and the people on each side of me, and after a while the plane landed. It felt really good to be back on American soil. Customs was really easy. I actually like going through American customs because it makes me, not only proud to be an American, but also really glad to be back home, this time I was especially glad to be back home considering the world events that were taking place.

After going through customs and back through security we headed toward our gate. Five minutes before boarding someone in our group realized that they didn’t have their camera and went off running to find it. By the time that they found it and returned to the gate everyone was boarded and the final boarding call had already been called. They just barely made it. Apparently they left their camera at security.

I had an isle seat and was really happy about that. One of my friends had the window seat beside me. And the seat between us was free (one of the only free seats on the plane.) Even though we were both really tired, and we both had to go to school the next day we talked for the entire flight. The flight landed on time and once I was off the plane I went straight to a TV to watch the news and find out how the war was going. After a while I went down to the baggage claim, got my luggage and met up with the rest of the people in my group. Then we headed back for Spokane and started to get used to the cold temperatures.

I hope you all enjoyed my report. Next time I take a trip I wont wait five months to write a report.

Yes I enjoyed it. It's a pity for you that nobody else replied yet to your trip report. Don't worry about being late in writing a report, the main thing is that you wrote it. Better late than never. There's no rule for that, you can ever write up a report about a flight you took years ago. It's no problem. Yes I like former TWA 757's, they are indeed comfortable. I also flew on one, from DFW to LGA, earlier this year. I haven't flown for a while in a 757 originally ordered by American.

I flew AA Belize to Miami last year (my inbound flight being via Guatemala City) and was impressed by AA and their 737-800's

I think its a shame you state an adverse opinion about a country (Guatemala) after having only visited it for one day!

Guatemala is a truly stunning country; you clearly did not see the majesty of its old capital Antigua, nor maybe the beautiful Lake Atitilan and her three volcanoes or the stunning mayan remains at Ciebal and Tikal; the list just goes on. I recommend you go back one day and spend at least 3 weeks there!

I should apologize for saying that about Guatemala because I really didn't get to see much of it. I only saw just a little bit past the boarder. What I really should have said is that Guatemala didn't seem as wealthy as Belize.

Nice Report. Yes, I definetly prefer the TWA 757s over the American 757s.
