"whats the HOLODECk lounge though?"
This is a little relaxation bar and lounge AT
Heathrow Airport. You pay to get in but then all drinks are complementary. There is TV
and terminals to plug in laptop PCs and kids or adults can also play games on special video terminals. It has 3 levels, including an upper observation deck with a glorious view of Heathrow! Nice little place.
"You lucky bugger! Can't wait for the trip report."
Bear with me a few days, just got the first batch of film to be digitally processed to the photolab today. I didn't take my new digital camera along because I'm not savvy about using it, yet-it had to be 35mm, this time.
"I think that it is really cool and really good that you have got to experience the Concorde. I think that that would be very sweet to be able to fly one."
You STILL can but only if you hurry and also pay a rather dearer price than I did when I booked in May. I'm still thinking about going again with my Mom, this time, but the higher tag definitely gives pause. Still, you should consider it, it's definitely worth the money, if you have the money to do it.
"Did the take-off roll seem more powerful or more forceful than any other aircraft you have been on? Or does it not go really really fast until it acquires the destined altitude? I was just wondering."
Takeoff roll was definitely more powerful, though it didn't seem any noisier than a subsonic. The SST climbs a bit slower, at reduced power, to keep ground noise levels tolerable until it reaches 8000 feet, then the climb to altitude is swift to 50,000 feet, then slows until it reaches max. altitute-57,500 feet, on this flight. Chris, I'll have the full report in a few days, after I get my photos, this was just a teaser, so excited, I just had to get it out!
GDB, thanks for posting the retirement info. Caught up in romanticism after landing, I stated in my survey that I felt a lot of the post 9/11 and Iraq war lost business would likely have come back in time for both BA
, especially if they restructured fares a bit to make it a little cheaper. I said I thought it should've been given more time, maybe another year. However, that was wishful thinking and Airbus, determined to cut its' projected losses and run, was in the driver's seat. Still wonder though (even though I KNOW!) why such a wonderful experience must come to an end. SO sad it has to.
