LAX-ANC-LAX On Alaska Airlines

Fri Oct 03, 2003 8:35 am

I was just thinking about my trip 3 or 4 years ago with Alaska Airlines. I was going on a 7 day tour of alaska with Holland American tours. It was a great trip and I would do it again except Alaska Airlines would be left out of my plans.

Airline: Alaska Airlines
Route: LAX-ANC
Seat #: can not remember
I departed with my family to LAX at about 6:00am to catch a 8:00am fligh to anchorage. I checked in and the agent was totally borring. She sounded like somoeone was forcing her to do this job. I then got upstairs in a breeze because this was a month before 9/11 and when Midway airlines was comming to LAX. I then waited and boarded the plane and I got inside and was greated by the nice Flight Attendants and got to my seat which was the second to last row in the plane. I find that there will be NO ENTERTAINMENT for 5hrs and 10 mins. I was so mad when I found this out. Then into the flight the seat was too small and I kept sliding into the asile and my legs had no place to go. There was no leg room and I am almost 6 ft. I notcie that the walls in the plane were ALL DIRTY and the place where the reading lights are were falling out in the seats across from me. Then the tray table in back of me was broken and every time the guy behind me used it he had a hard time getting it back in its place. FINALLY we landed in ANC and I had never been so happy to be on the gound. We got to the gate and I was happy.

I had to gothe next day to start the tour so we used Alaska Airlines again.
Airline: ALaska Airlines
Aircraft: 737-400 (love that plane)
Dep: 7:00am
Arr: 7:50am
I was once again going to fly alaska airlines. I got on the plane and I saw the same seats and was glad to see the plane was clean, had bigger seats and was in good condition. Also there was more room I thought. We took off and I saw a lot whie in the air since we flew low. Fairbanks had a lot of Chirstmas Trees next to the airport. we got there and got off the plane to start the tour.

Airline: Alaska Airlines
Route: ANC-LAX
Dep: 4:00pm
Arrived: 9:30 pm
I was tired and so was everyone else that came with em onthis tour. I got on that 737-700 again. I sat close to First class. I wanted to go home but not on AS. I got to my seat and put my stuff in the bin and sat down. those planes board quick like in 10 or 20 mins the plane is rolling back I am use to the 747's that can take an hour to board. I watched the Flight Attendants which were all men do the safety briefing. Then we took off and had dinner. I finally saw the sun set. I had not seen this phenoma in 7 days. I was very excited. I read, listened to music and waited to land in LAX (MY HOME). We finally came over LAX and I got excited again to see the lights of my city. We landed got our suitcaes that went all around Alaska and my aunt picked us up and we went home.

I hated that airline. That kind of aircraft belongs to Southwest. They are allowed to have planes like that but not AS. I paid a lot of money to fly them and i did not like it. Southwest you do not pay a lot for so I expect that kind of Striped model of an Aircraft but for AS that is terrible. Even first class plassengers do not have TV. Now I will fly AS on short haul flights and that is it. I will avoid them at all costs and fly alternate airlines to fly on. The TV commercial they have says " Alaska Airlines the Spirit of Alaska" if they want to talk about the sprit of Alaska don't use the airline to show that because people will not want to go to Alaska.

So, you didn't like your trip because of 1 of the 3 airplanes was dirty and there was no IFE (which anyone at the airline could have told you if you had asked in advance). It doesn't sound like anything went wrong with your flights. BTW, I'm very dubious of your description of the AS 73G, as AS only started receiving this aircraft 3-4 years ago, in which case your plane should have been pretty much brand new. And, I have sat in the last row on the 73Gs and had plenty of legroom, and I am 6' tall as well.

Damm somebody really doesn't like AS! I love AS but I do agree with you. AS really isn't the best airline for long-haul flights from LAX-ANC or even the east coast flights from Seattle. They should do something for in-flight entertaiment for even there low paying passengers.

They are, hopefully starting this month.

On-demand TV, movies and MP3 music. Looks pretty slick (not quite revolutionary), although I wish they would bring the price down.

Wow! I've never read anything so negative in my life! I fly Alaska several times each year and have never had any kind of a negative experience! I flew them earlier this summer from SEA-MCO-SEA in coach one way and first class one way and both flights were excellent---the first class service had to be the best domestic first class I've encountered---we were even given portable DVD players with our choice of movies! Interesting how different people interpret different things!

Seems to me that being so negative towards an airline because on one of three flights the plane was dirty and a tray table was broken (thats pretty easy to do) is rather juvenile. The fact that I got my coffee in a styrofome cup in first class on UA doesn't make me hate them. I think thats its important to understand that up until recently, AS was really just a short- to medium-haul carrier. The longest flights were probably the 3.5 or so hours SEA-ANC or SEA-SAN flights. Its only in the last few years, and with the new 737-700s and -900s that AS has been able to expand to new east coast routes. This would explain the lack of IFE....why intstall PTVs in all the seatbacks when an aircraft that can operate SEA-MCO will also be operating SEA-GEG or SEA-YVR? The new little hand-hend devices are a first of their kind and I think that most people on those transcontinentals would be more than willing to pay the price to rent one for the flight.

No offense, but they got you their safely, (on-time I suppose?), they fed you a meal on the longer flights, and you had your luggage when you got to the airport. Sounds like a good flight to me.

I have an important word of advise for you: NEVER FLY NORTHWEST DOMESTICALLY! They are my favorite airline, but there is no IFE on flights within the US except Hawaii.
The New American is arriving.
