AMS To BCN On Iberia

Thu Oct 09, 2003 5:22 pm

A few months ago a friend of mine invited me and my girlfriend to his home in Barcelona. After searching the web for some nice fares for this trip we ended up with a roundtrip operated by Iberia. Due to the heavy competition on this route (the route is flown by four different airlines, being KLM, Iberia, BasiqAir and easyJet) Iberia offered a great deal, so why not try the Spanish guys  Smile

Amsterdam (AMS) - Barcelona (BCN)
Flight number: IB 4263
Scheduled departure time: 19:15
Scheduled arrival time: 21:20
Type of aircraft: A320-200
Registration: EC-FNR

I finishes work at 3.00pm to catch the train to the airport. I arrived at the airport at 4.15pm where my girlfriend was already waiting for me. After doing some shopping at Schiphol Plaza, we went to Schiphol’s T1 where the Iberia check-in is located. Checkin went very smooth, approximately 2 minutes  Big thumbs up
Our gate was B10, so we made the short walk and while my girlfriend did some reading I focused on the aircraft around. As the B consourse only handles European traffic I saw an Air France A320, Air Portugal A319, Lufthansa B737 and a Dutchbird B757 at the gates.
At 6.45pm two Iberia A320’s appeared at the apron, one was our plane to Barcelona, the other was the flight to Madrid. Boarding went smooth and at 7.30pm we were ready to go. Then the pilot made an announcement that our flight would be delayed by about 20 minutes due to traffic congestion at the airport. I already noticed when walking through the airport that it was very busy, all gates seemed to be occupied all the time.
Finally at 7.50pm we were being pushed back from our stand and started the short taxi-run to departure runway 24, we were number 2 for take-off behind an easyJet B737-700.
The flight itself went smooth. Because this was an evening flight there was not much to see outside so I began to judge the interior of the plane. The interior was OK, nice clean seats and the legroom was phenominal !!! Much better than for example BA or KLM. The IFE was OK as well, it featured some destination info and also some info about the new Airbus A340-600, very nice !!!
During the approach into Barcelona Airport we made a beautiful holding pattern above the city, what a sight  Big thumbs up This was definately one of my best approaches I ever had.
After landing I rushed to the bagage claim area to pick-up my bag, the bagage was already on the carrousel so within 5 minutes I got my bag. Then I went through the arrivals hall where my friend was already waiting for me.
I definately will choose Iberia again !!! They offer some good fares to Spain from Amsterdam, most of the times cheaper than the so called LCC’s easyJet and BasiqAir. And as I prefer the Airbus A320’s over the 737’s, I think I will fly Iberia again in the future.

I also have been on Iberia, same route, both in Y and C. They indeed provide a much better service then KL and other carriers on this route. I really like their A320!
