Here's just a quick Domestic trip report.

New Zealand no longer has full "meal" service on any airline flying with in New Zealand. Here's a quickie I did to Auckland this past weekend for some fishing in the gulf.

NZ490 - Wellington - Auckland
21:30 hours Friday night

Checked in using the automated Kiosks using an airpoints card. This system is simply great. It's so fast and you can change/choose your seats to suit your whim du jour. We took 1C/1D - Across the aisle from each other. It was 930pm at night so there was no point taking a cramped window seat as there was nothing to see.

We took off about 3 mins early to the north and headed through to Auckland. Service was delayed slightly due to rough air leaving Wellington. Once clear of the air we were served standard "Air New Zealand Express Class" fare. We got a choice of tea/coffee and the cup contained a small cookie with in.

Once they did this service they then came around the cabin offering pottles of water to. Wasn't longer before they collected the refuse and we were coming into Auckland. The flight is only scheduled for an hour each way =)

QF4009 - Auckland - Wellington
08:10 hours Monday Morning

Checked in and asked for adjancent aisle seats and told that the seats had already been preassigned and we would have to take what we were given. We ended up with 13C/D (across the aisle seats - so why the comment?) and then proceeded to the gate.

We proceeded on board and on the seats where packets of headphones for the inflight entertainment for this 1 hour flight.

Once airbourne they came through the cabin with a chocolate danish each and then with tea and coffee, and with the option to purchase a coke, sprite etc or orange juice for NZ$1.00 which I thought was a bloody fantastic concept. I wish Air NZ would consider this on their domestic flights.

We came into Wellington on a FANTASIC blue cloudless day and I have to say with all the destinations I have been to, you can't beat Wellington on a Good Day.

ALL in ALL, the flights were NZ$75.00 each way (US$38.00 / UK£25.00) and I would rather have these fares than pay what the old prices used to be.

However, I think Air NZ should take a tad notice of QF who match the fares, offered a "snack" and inflight entertainment.

All being said however, I still prefer the flight attendants of Air NZ over Qantas. They appear to be a little more "real".

Thanks for reading, told ya it would be brief

Hey Jason, does Qantas still fly a few Biz seats around domestic? Last time I took Qantas on WLG-AKL is just over a year ago. I flew eco, had great leg room, got served food and there even was inflight entertainment, impersonated by John Travolta telling everything about his 707...  Big grin

Well, QF surely isnt making any money on these runs, or? A little competition is good however. Flying in NZ is cheaper than ever... I remember back in 99 or something the cheapest you could get was AKL-WLG rtn for 199NZD and AKL-CHC for 269NZD. That was including a full meal service...
How times have changed...
