I did this trip three months ago, but did not have the chance to write the report until now. When flying sometimes I used to take some basic notes in order to write the report, however I missed most of the information, but I still have some…so here is my report of a good trip with a free ticket at the end.
From/ To: MEX-ATL
Flight: DL8012 operated by AM as AM600
Seat: 32A change to 10F
I arrived to Mexico City Airport and went directly to Aeromexico counter in the international terminal, however there were a lot of people in the line that I decided to walk to the national terminal where you can also document your AM flight for international destinations. I do not like to be in the lines for a long time. The plane departed on time and the flight was very smooth, we were served a hot lunch and drinks. A film was exhibited and forms filled out before landing. AM has duty-free store on board, and I bought a replica of an AM B767-300. The plane arrived on time, it was going to be my first time at Atlanta Airport.
Once at the building terminal, I went to immigration…the process was very slow, but I was not worried because I got almost 2 hours for connecting, however some people got desperated and claim to the officers, but obviously the only answer they had was “Sorry, you have to wait!”. I really hated all this time, I had never been in line for such a long time for immigration procedures, I think it was more than an hour. When finally passed immigration, I took my luggage and cleared customs. Then, I went to the waiting lounge to get my connecting flight to CVG.
From/ To: ATL-CVG
Aircraft: scheduled: B757 / actual: 767
I had my itinerary to fly on a B757, however when boarding I realized it was not a B757 but a B767, and it departed delayed (almost an hour). It was a very normal flight, and only drinks were served. I am glad that DL shows the flight security instructions in Spanish on the screens. We arrived delayed to CVG. I do not have too much to comment about this flight, at the end the best was the nice surprise of flying on a B767 instead of the 757.
From/ To: CVG-ATL
I had my ticket to get connection for MEX the same day (July 26), however I wanted to spend an extra day in ATL for shopping purposes only, so I arrived early at the airport in Cincinnati (well…actually Cincinnati airport is not in Cincinnati nor even inside Ohio State), and I wanted to change my ticket from ATL-MEX for the last flight of July 27, however it was only going to be possible if I paid 300 dollars, I asked why, and the clerk counter told me that my ticket was not valid for stop-over, so I should get my connecting flight in the next 24 hours, but then I asked him to change my connection for the first flight on the next day (which actually was within the next 24 hours), and I paid only 100 dollars for the change, so I was going to have the chance to spend a day in ATL for my purpose.
One interesting thing was that it was going to be my first time on board of a B737-800, and actually the plane looked very nice inside, I loved it. The flight departed on time. We were served drinks as usually and besides the experience of flying on a B737-800 no other important comment. I arrived at ATL, took my luggage and wanted to rent a car, but unfortunately my driver license expired the day before, so I checked in a hotel in the airport area and use the shuttle service to get back to the airport and from there get the subway to Atlanta uptown.
From/ To: ATL-MEX changed
Flight: DL8175 operated by AM as AM601
From/ To: ATL-MEX
I went to the airport very early cause I wanted to spend some time in the duty free. I check my luggage and got my boarding. Duty free was still closed but they were already preparing to open. I had a cinnamon and coffee meanwhile the duty free store was open. When opened, I bought a perfume and then went to the waiting lounge. I wanted to wait until all the people boarded the plane, and it was a good idea because suddenly the officer ask for volunteers to change their flight and have a ticket reward, so I replied immediately. They told me that the next flight was going to depart at about 10:30 but it was full, so they could give me a seat in the 11:35 flight, I said Ok!...and I got my coupon to exchange for a free ticket with Aeromexico. I do not know how it works but later I thought that my ticket was issued by Delta so I should have a DL ticket reward and not AM. Actually my original flight to Mexico was with DL but after the change in ATL it was a share flight with AM. Anyway I got a free ticket that I have to use in the next months (one year validity). Now I had more time and went back to the duty free, walked all the ATL terminals meanwhile waiting for my flight.
Finally, boarding time…without any news to report, the flight was 99.9 full and we departed on time. This time I kept the menu that were offered:
The Menu was stamped with Aeromexico and Delta logos in both languages, English and Spanish.
- Salad: Seasonal garden greens with radish and cucumbers, offered with ranch dressing
- Entrees: option 1 Beef tips, enhanced by mushroom sauce, presented with green beans, carrots, and garlic mashed potatoes. Option 2 Pappardelle with chicken sauce accompanied by grilled chicken strips, topped with cheese.
- Bread and butter
- Dessert: Triple chocolate triffle.
They showed a film that I had already watched, so I preferred to listen music and read a magazine. We board on time at MEX, and finally back to home again!
My next two trip reports will be MEX-GRU (one trip already finished, and the second trip to be completed this friday 7).
