My First 757-300 Flight On NW

Mon Feb 02, 2004 9:35 am

Date: Thursday, October 2nd 2003
Airline: Northwest Airlines
Flight: NW158
From: Seattle/Tacoma, WA (SEA)
To: Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN (MSP)
EQP: Boeing 757-300 5804 N584NW
Departure Gate: S2
Sched Departure: 915am
Actual Departure: 907am
take-off: 948am (we were delayed with take-off due to weather)
Arrival Gate: G3
Sched Arrival: 229pm
Actual Arrival:247pm
touch-down 241pm
total time of flight from take-off to touchdown: 2hr 53mn
Seat: 24A

I got up pretty early for this flight around 3am because I was excited it was going to be my first 757-300 flight, and I was thrilled. After my grandparents were ready we left my house around 5:45am. We got to Sea-Tac airport around 6:30am, so I knew we had plenty of time to relax before our 915am flight to the Twin Cities. We got to the e-ticket check-in lines where there was a kind of long line due to the fact, there was a 640am flight to MSP still checking in passengers. We went up to the e-ticket machines and check-in was pretty easy. We got our boarding passes, gave our luggages to the lady, she tagged them and we waited for the wheelchairs for my grandparents. After saying goodbye to my aunt and uncle, we headed down to the tram to take to the south satellite terminal where NW operates out of. At about 815am the crew got on the aircraft. The crew consisted of 8. 2 Flight deck crew and 6 f/a's. Boarding began at approximately 830am with pre-boarding first, then general boarding began soon after. Main boarding door closed at 906am and push-back was at 907am. During our taxi to the runway, we watched the f/a's do the safety demo. For those of you who don't know NW no longer does safety demonstrations on the video screens on domestic flights. We had a small delay due to weather. After take-off, the f/a's began preparing the meal service. The first round was the beverages. I had a pepsi cuz i can't stand water, then breakfast soon followed. It was disgusting. NW has excellent on time service, but ever since 9/11 there food has gotten horrible. Anyway after eating that tasty breakfast, I decided just to read to pass the rest of the flight. About 20 minutes to touch-down the lead f/a announced that all psgrs had to turn off their portable electronics, and that all carry-on items be stowed, as well as to put ur seat back and tray tables back to their upright posistions and to securely fasten their seatbelts. We touched down at 241pm and had a 6 minute taxi to Gate G3 where we deplaned via L2. It was a great flight, and I am looking forward to taking this same aircraft to HNL in June..
Hope everybody likes it.

What did the terribly disgusting breakfast consist of? I haven't flown NW in a long time, and I'm curious how the cutbacks have effected their meal service.

Nice report. I'd also like to know what they served for breakfast. I flew MSP-MCO on a 757 (NWA) in late August 2003 which was a little over 3 hours, and all we got for the 7 am flight was a beverage, and a granola bar!

I didn't do much better on CO when we flew from EWR-PBI. Does a beverage and a small (and I mean small) muffin count as a breakfast snack? Although to be fair, it was good.

SEA-MSP has gotten the same meal quite so time now. If fact there is only one breakfast served in coach on domestic flights. Its Cheerios cereal, 2%milk, banana, warm bagel w/cream cheese. Once I saw apples instead of bananas. Its decent, and filling if you are hungry.

I'd also like to know what they served for breakfast. I flew MSP-CO / KMCO), USA - Florida">MCO on a 757 (NWA) in late August 2003 which was a little over 3 hours, and all we got for the 7 am flight was a beverage, and a granola bar!

NW only serves (free) meals on flights to/from the West Coast (yes, some flights - like DTW-LAS vs. MSP-SEA - may be longer, but NW's keeping it simple). Only CO has a better meal policy -- and breakfast would be a single doughnut while luch/dinner would be a tiny sandwhich & carrots. Meals are for sale on most flights to/from CO / KMCO), USA - Florida">MCO, however.

If fact there is only one breakfast served in coach on domestic flights.
You forgot the yogurt. This is the same breakfast NW's served in Y on most domestic flights for more than a decade.

IP - I believe the explosive yogurt has disapeared and can only be found once and awhile on the FC brekky flights. As for the ceral... it seems to revolve too. I've had wheaties, cheerios, total and rasin bran before.

Trekky,
US should still be around in April, but if they can't arrest their current money seepages I don't expect them to last the year. US has basically out and said that the next few months are critical for the airline. I interpret this as: We need money, and we need it now. By the way---the IATA identifier for Philadelphia is PHL....not PHY.

Besides the length and 737NG-inspired interior, are there any other noticeable differences (interior, exterior, performance-wise) between the 757-200 and -300?

Also, since Northwest doesn't offer any IFE on its domestic flights, do the 757-300s have tvs in the cabin (either drop-downs or above the aisles)?

thanks for the answers  Big grin

Northwest 753s have the drop downs from the overhead bins. I think they are about every 4 rows

Thanks COAB767!

Do you know if the drop down screens are used on flights to Hawaii?

The drop down screens will be used on the flights to Hawaii. Northwest Airlines has this thing called currents. If you fly NW from SEA to HNL they will show currents, it's a bunch of tv programs, then they will show the feature film. Also it would interesting to watch the 753 safety video

Will the demo be a video on the SEA-HNL flights? I know f/a's may not like it, but I always like a live demo and hate to see more and more airlines switching to the videos!

It will be on the video's all NW flights operating to Hawaii have the safety demonstration using the videos. Also to let u know I work for Continental Micronesia, and we use the safety videos. It just makes it more easier, that way we can do a cabin check during taxi out instead of doing a manual demonstration.

Oh by the way can i add u to my respective list?
