Things didn’t start out too well, as the cab company I had called the night before didn’t show up at 7:20 to get me to the airport by 7:30. At 7:35 I called to find out what the hell was going on, only to find that they had completely forgotten to pick me up, but offered to have a cab there in 20 minutes. Plan B was then put into motion and I asked my roommate to get out of bed and take me. Thank god for roommates!
Well by the time I checked in, I had 25 min before the flight left. A helpful agent suggested that I head to the IAB
(International Arrivals Bldg) as there was only a 20 min wait (boy I’m cutting it close!) After only 18 min I had passed through security and was running to C1. Upon arriving at my seat, 16E I found another person sitting there who also had a boarding card of 16E. I asked the FA
if she knew where I should sit. And she left the plane to go find out. She came back with a seat assignment of 10F, which was also taken. I asked the gentleman in 10F where he was supposed to sit, and made my way to his seat, 10A. Nothing like musical seats on a completely full 737 two minutes before pushback. Let’s just hope my bags made it onboard!
Sitting in 10A on the 738--No foot room at all!
Pushback was a few minutes late, but we made no delay as we taxied to 34R. We somehow got to cut in line and taxi onto the runway, heading to the end with a 180 degree turn on the runway to point in takeoff direction. We made a leisurely take off to the north, crossing the Wasatch range above Ogden. The captain announced our flight time of 3hrs and 52 minutes, and said he planned on an early arrival.
Climbing to the north of SLC
, looking west
Crossing the Wasatch Range heading into the clouds, with Ogden below
Coming out of the clouds just above the Uintahs
Climb out was slightly bumpy, but soon smoothed out as we reached 37000 Feet. Our FA
’s began the breakfast service, my first DL
flight under the Pay for Food plan. I paid $6 for the turkey wrap which was small but pretty tasty.
The Mini Wrap
After breakfast, the movie started (School of Rock) which proved to be kind of boring. So I used my own entertainment (Legally Blonde) which was perfect since I was heading to Boston and this made me even more excited to be there. For some reason, there were a lot of families with young children on this flight--a lot of restless, screaming children. Another annoyance was the complete lack of service in the econ cabin. One half glass of OJ with breakfast, and an offering of Coffee halfway through the flight and that was it! My last econ flight ATL
, we had two drink services, a coffee service, and a water service. What the hell is up with Delta???
Anyway, nothing like Reese Witherspoon to make a flight go quickly. About the time Reese finished up the case, we began our descent. We flew north of town and then turned right to head down the coast. We then made a sharp right turn to line up with 33 I think, and while making the turn we had an excellent view of the cape.
Almost on the ground in Boston
Within a few minutes we were on the ground, and a few later at the gate, arriving 5 minutes early. Overall the flight was pretty good, even with the lack of foot room in the bulkhead. It could have been much worse I suppose, say if they had put me in 31E next to a screaming baby!
Our baggage took forever, I guess it was the 30+ snowboards and skis they unloaded. After reclaiming the bags, I took the shuttle to Thrifty Rental car, which seemed like it was so far from Logan, that it was north of Revere…lol Overall, not a bad flight. The cheapskates at DL
could have made it much better, but when you’re pissing away cash at their rate, I guess you have to stick it to your customers! We'll see if the return flight is any better...
I welcome your comments!
