Last year I was flying with my family on delta from ATW
(appleton,wisconsin) to PHX
. The flights were as follows...

When I woke up at 4:30 in the morning I went on delta.com to check the status of our flights. When I did I saw something that horrified me, my ATW
flight was canceled. I didn’t want to believe it so I drove out to the airport early. When I asked that woman at the desk she told me that the CRJ had not come in from CVG
that morning because it was being used to help stranded passengers who had been stuck at Denver over night do to fog. She told me that there were no more open flights that day from Milwaukee, Green Bay, or Appleton but I really wanted to get to Arizona so I kept asking her to keep looking. Finally she booked us on a flight leaving from MSP
6 hrs. from then, apparently we got the last seats on the plane. Then they printed our new tickets and rushed us onto a coach bus because MSP
is a 5 hr drive from ATW
When we got to MSP
the dumb bus driver could not find the terminal. We drove around MSP
for about 20min looking for the domestic terminal(we found the international terminal....3 times)but no such luck. Finally he dropped us off at the wrong side of the airport so we had to take an underground people mover to the Delta ticket counter and wasted another 10 minutes. Finally we reached the ticket counter after a rather long wait in line. Just as I thought we might be in the clear and nothing else could possibly go wrong, something did. After looking at our tickets the delta employee informed us that we were there on the wrong date and that out tickets were for the following weekend. In the bustle back at ATW
the desk employee had accidentally switched the dates on our tickets and booked us the following weekend.
After some pleading and a few calls to ATW
we got new tickets for that flight accept I was going to have to fly from CVG
and then to PHX
and my family was going to have to wait for me in phoenix. Well that wasn’t going to matter if we didn’t make our flight out of MSP
which was leaving in 10min!
A Delta supervisor had overheard our problem and was very helpful. He scanned our bags in very quickly and then got us in the “VIP security line” because the main line was a half hour wait. Then after all of us had went through the metal detectors wouldn’t you know it my wife got selected for a wand screening. Luckily the supervisor had gotten us one of those golf carts that got us to our gate in a few seconds rather than 10 minutes if we had walked. Well we ended up getting on that flight and in CVG
I got lucky because there was an open seat on my families’ flight so we all arrived in PHX
together 2 hours later than originally planned. All in all it was a great trip and an uneventful trip home. I can’t hold any grudges against Delta though because they did more than I expected to get us to PHX
in a timely manner. That’s the chance you take when you fly.
