DUO Airlines, Bringing Back The Pleasure Of Flying

Wed Mar 31, 2004 10:34 am

Well this is a bit of fresh air in the LCA stifling age. I had the opportunity of flying DUO airlines last week between Birmingham BHX and Copenhagen CPH.

Before starting this trip I was very skeptic about the service DUO would provide. As they declare themselves they would offer again the pleasure of flying. Well they were right. I arrived to BHX and was given a fast check-in by a professional and friendly staff. Later on I had a nice time in the waiting room and a punctual departure. However the best things came on board the tidy Canadair CRJ 200 DUO operates in its fleet. Stylized music when boarding, sophisticated and helpful F/A, leather seats and fast turn-around.
During last flight on the night we had open bar, free soft drinks and a snack. I thought well that's all, however later on a full meal was served in a smart pottery and free selection of salad and bread. Near landing we were offered a cheese cocktail and tea. All this in a flight of less than 2 hours, for just £59 each way when booking in advance.
I want to make clear that I don't have any link to DUO. It's just that I was really satisfied with the service in a time of LCA fashion. However, I wouldn't classify DUO as a LCA despite its low fares and I obtained more than I would expect from the big ones (BA, AF, IB, LH). It's this the beginning of a new trend in air-transport? Any comments?

ACES320,
Thanks for your thoughts!
That is fantastic. Its good to see that good service is NOT a thing of the past; infact I hope this is a trend that continues to grow. After all, flying is supposed to be fun not stressful and aggravating. (its usually, well almost never this way for us a.nutters, but I am speaking for the common man here!)

Like I said, its good to see service is starting to come back; it shouldn't be just a way of "getting there", it should be "THE way of getting there."

Regards,
Mike

Thanks B747400. I cannot remember the last time I really enjoyed a flight as a "civil flyer" not as a fan. I cannot wait until I fly with them again.

Another good DUO report, I will be using them several times in the next few months on the EDI-OSL route and am looking forward to it now.

From the sound of it, this is how I feel flying should be like!
I would always pay more to fly on a full service airline that serves main airports. Duo sounds great. Let's hope they do well!

Good to read another positive report on Duo!  Big thumbs up After a bit of a struggle at the start, they seem to be finding the passengers they have been looking for, at last. I still blame it on the lack of advertising and publicity.
Rumour is that they are to announce 2 more new routes from EDI this week.

Enjoyed reading your report. I am a fan of Duo. They do seem to have introduced an interesting concept of first class treatment but fairly low prices. Hopefully other airlines will take this on board. As Scottishladdie said, it is believed that they are announcing more routes from EDI. I recently flew EDI-OSL. My only gripe is that I am not that fond of the CRJ200, but it does make sense to run that aircraft on their routes. I managed to bang my head twice though on the overhead bins Smile

Thanks for that! Duo sounds good. I'll certainly take them into account should I find myself wanting to fly to any of their destinations.

Duo is being plugged on the radio here in Oxfordshire quite hard, with lots of promotions.
