My Aunt in Palm Beach invited me out to Florida for Spring Break. Naturally, I accepted. I booked my CO flights as an unaccompained minor for PHX-IAH-FLL-IAH-PHX for only about 250 USD. Yet, there always is that 150 USD unaccompanied minor fee that all the majors now charge. Anyways, due to a drastic change in circumstances which I will describe later, my routing became PHX-IAH-FLL-DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL-EWR-PHX.

Time of Departure: 11:27 a.m.
Time of Arrival: 2:59 p.m.
Since I had not flown since Christmas, and I had never flown CO, I was naturally excited about this trip. Also, I had never flown as an unaccompained minor before.
I arrived at the airport around 9:30, rushing alongside my mom to T2 at Sky Harbor so I would have time to spot. We parked our car in the Short term T2 lot, and walked across the road to the terminal. Once inside, I walked up to the ticket counter, where the agent greeted us with a friendly "Good Morning." He explained the unaccompained process to me, and wrapped a wristband around my wrist. After handing me my pass he told us we could bypass the longer security lines by using the elite access line. We did, and as soon as I cleared security I rushed to the end of T2 to sit at the cafe and watch the runway ops.
I purchased a bagel, and we sat down to view the operations. Mostly HP and WN planes, I did see a few DL, AA, and Ted planes. At about 10:35 we walked to my gate, where our 737-900 waited. Luckily, I got there just in time. As I walked up the gate agent greeted the waiting passengers with a friendly "Howdy," and my name and that of a nine year old were called to board. I boarded and found my seat in the second row of economy, the right side, in the middle.
I have never been on a 737-900 before, but I must say it is a fantastic aircraft. Even though I have read your comments on CO cleanliness, I was still amazed at how clean the aircraft were. I was given a free pair of headphones by the flight attendant, and I plugged them in. I started to listen to the classical music station while all the other pax boarded. Soon we were beginning our take off roll.
Our 739 pushed back, and the safety video with the CO flight attendants and Gordon Bethune played. Soon, we were in the air on the way to Houston.
Once airborne, the CO Visions program began to play. The features included an episode of Good Morning Miami, specials on CO destinations, and new music videos. Once at about 16,000 ft. (The Airshow played till about then) the cabin crew came around with the drink cart and ham and cheese or turkey sandwiches. I chose the turkey, and a diet coke or pepsi (I cannot remember which). I settled in and enjoyed my sandwich, which was a small turkey on hard bread. The meal also included a chocolate turtle, chips, and a small apple. Soon, the middle-age blonde with pig tails sitting next to me began to speak in this patronizing nazilily voice and tone. SHE WOULD NOT LEAVE ME ALONE. For the rest of the flight she kept asking me questions, and I tried to go to sleep, BUT SHE WOKE ME UP! Ugh. Soon enough we were at IAH. We taxied in next to some other CO planes. I waited until all the pax had disembarked and then the FA came around to walk me off. Once at the gate, one of those electric carts was called to take me to the international terminal, for as I later found out my 757 to FLL had arrived from Cancun.

Time of Departure: 4:05 p.m.
Time of Arrival: 7:26 p.m.
I arrived at my gate where a rather rude gate agent checked me in. Our 757 was parked next to an AF 777 and a KLM 744. Soon, I realized that boarding should have started. I asked the agent what was wrong, and she explained that the door to the jetway would not open because another one had not shut? Finally, we began to board ten minutes late. The same process for boarding on the flight from PHX was used. (The FA signing off on me, etc.)
Once onboard I took out my headphones and began to listen to the same classical music station. Soon, the KL 744 pulled out, and it was replaced by a BA 777. During that "trade of spaces," I realized that a LH A340 was next to the KL plane. Once we pushed I started to drift of to sleep, waking up over the Gulf. The same sandwich meal was served, and I ate it, falling back to sleep again afterwards. Soon, I was at FLL where my Aunt stood waiting.
So, I had enjoyed these two wonderful days in Florida when all of a sudden my Grandmother in Massachusetts died. She was my dad's mom, and my aunt's. We knew we had to quickly pack up the winter condo and get on a plane, so we booked Song flights for that night. We managed to pack up in under three hours.

DL 2482 (Operated by Song)
FLL-DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL
Time of Departure: 6:50 p.m.
Time of Arrival: 9:34 p.m.
Despite the fact that my Grandmother had died five hours earlier, I was excited about flying Song. I stepped onboard to find a clean, comfortable leather cabin with PTVs installed. We took out seats, 3C and 3B. BTW, my Aunt has a small Shit-Zu who traveled with us on this flight. We taxied to the runway, but held short of it when the pilot announced that there was a storm passing overhead, and that we would wait for a couple of minutes before taking off. We did, and soon the takeoff roll began.
While we were climbing we experienced a bout of turbulence so bad that many people threw up. It really did not bother me at all. On the PTV, which features 24 channels of live telly was really a plus. I began watching a show on Anna Kounikova on E! In the show she began discussing her ass. That was...interesting. The cabin crew came around with Song menus, and I purchased the ham sandwich for eight dollars. Even though the sandwich was large, I felt that I was being royally screwed by Song. Yet, they have to make money somehow. I then went on to watch the weather channel and more of E! for the remainder of the flight.
After a few days in MA for the funeral, I was ready to go back home to PHX.

CO 2258 (CO Express)
DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL-EWR
Time of Departure: 9:50 a.m.
Time of Arrival: 10:43 a.m.
We entered DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL's new terminal and quickly cleared security, going to Gate 3. The new terminal is such a relief compared to the drab old one, might I add.
Boarding began, and I entered my first 145. The seats were leather, nice and clean. As I boarded I peeked into the cockpit, were the pilots spoke with me for a couple of minutes. We took off into the clouds, and climbed to 10,000 ft. The single FA began a quick drink service, and I opted for some orange juice. Soon, the 34 minute flight was ending, and we peeked out of the clouds and touched down in Newark.
Once at Newark we traveled to our gate, 73, and waited for our 737-800 to PHX.
Tuesday, March 30, 2004
Time of Departure: 12:00 Noon
Time of Arrival: 2:21 p.m.
I boarded the clean -800 for the long flight to Phoenix. I again pulled out my headphones, and as we reached our cruising altitude watched the movie Intolerable Cruelty, a Coen Brothers flick with Catherine Zeta Jones and George Clooney. It was quite good. The same sandwich meal was served, except for this time the sandwich was a Stromboli's Warm Four Cheese type. Soon, after a long nap, we were back home to PHX.
Very good flights. But really, Song, do you have to charge 8 bucks?
