We arrived at Dublin to find out that this was in fact the inaugural service for HLX to Stuttgart from Dublin. I didn’t really pay much attention to this however because thinking that HLX was low cost I didn’t think there would be anything special about the flight. I was wrong. We got to the gate with about an hour before boarding to go, and there were lots of HLX people milling about the place with free champagne, orange juice and water. There were also people giving out free sweets. Also they had a magician and comedian causing a bit of a stir about the gate. The aircraft arrived and we boarded promptly.
The flight was fairly full. Despite the aircraft arriving very late we managed to depart just 15 minutes late. The aircraft was very nice, grey leather seats, which were very comfortable, and TV screens with a moving map and flight information. I was seated in 4 E. The inflight service was quite good, with tea/coffee with a piece of cake for about €3. The cabin crew were very friendly, but didn’t have very much English at all! I had a lovely view of the River Rhine as we came into Germany. The flight time was 1hr 40 minutes.
Upon arrival at Stuttgart more HLX staff with traditional German pretzels and chocolates to welcome us to Germany greeted us, a very nice touch indeed. Everybody seemed to be of the same opinion that it was a great service, and for only €29.99! At Stuttgart there were some nice DBA 737’s, Air France and Alitalia ERJ’s and another AF 737. Passport control in Stuttgart was very thorough and took a good while to get through. However the airport seemed very modern and nice, it is also served by the S-Bahn (train) to Stuttgart central.

After a lovely few days in the lovely German city that is Stuttgart I took the S-Bahn once more to the airport. The terminal is very very modern with spotting facilities in terminal 3. Lufthansa check-in is just economy and business, not divided into individual flights. A nice lady checked us in who gave us seats 16 A and C leaving the middle one free for us, a nice thought. It seems not many people have really heard about this Lufthansa flight to Dublin as about only 40 people were on it! It was a bargain at €53 one way!
Our aircraft had been at gate 113 for a while. In Stuttgart that day was EI-CWD of CityJet, the crew were in the terminal also, and Fokkers belonging to Germania Express, PGA – Portugalia and KLM. We boarded 5 minutes early. I was quite surprised as I thought that Lufthansa had leather seats on their 737’s but not this one, they were quite comfortable seats though with very generous legroom. I also had a lovely view from this seat just behind the wing and saw some other aircraft passing beneath us aswell as the ferrys when we got nearer to Dublin. Boarding was completed and we took off from Stuttgart on time. About 30 minutes into the flight our inflight service began. It was a small box with a sandwich and some water in it. It is a very good idea however the sandwich was pretty awful. A service of water or orange juice followed. I had thought that a full bar service would be offered but obviously not! Our cruising altitude was 36000 ft and our routing took us from Stuttgart to Brussels to London to Manchester to Liverpool to Dublin. We landed after 1 hour and 45 minutes but we had to wait a further 20 minutes on the ground before we could taxi to our gate as it was still occupied L It was raining in Dublin, as usual! Not the nice weather we had been use to in Stuttgart!
