Embraer and Brazil should be proud and here is why....
Had my first ride on the 170 last week and man oh man. The RJ has changed. Being 6'3", it's nice to be able to walk to my seat. It's still rather narrow down the center, but acceptable. Legroom is generous at 32" pitch, and the wider seat is better than the 737's I've been on and the A-319 I flew to PHL on. The aircraft is very quiet, the ride is smooth and on landing, well, there's a learning curve for the flight crew. It wasn't as smooth as a guy who's been flying one for a couple of years would have made it.
I know Midwest wanted a wider cabin than the 170/190 offers, but this aircraft is more than ample, and the 170/190 might have given them a bit more flexibility in range and fleet mix. This gives a 717 a run for it's money in terms of 2+2 comfort. If I were running midwest, I'd have taken the 170 with 60 seats and the 190 with 80 seats. This would yield a 36-37" seat pitch.
Window height is just right. This aircraft absolutely crushes the CRJ's in terms of comfort, seat quality and overhead bin storage. The 170/190 has the same type of "curved" bins you'd find on the 777, just not as big.
Way to go Embraer. Now if you could build a 30 to 50 seater with this comfort.
