I was travelling by land to Prague - on the way back home I opted for the plane though
We arrived at the Airport about 1.5 hours early, knowing that PRG
could get a bit crowded on a whitmonday evening.
Check-in was horribly crowded - we were waiting for approx. 30 minutes as there were only 6 counters open for coach class, serving for all european OK
destinations. The actual check-in was rather quick then, we were given seats 10B and 10C onboard the 737-500.
Proceeded through passport control which for me as a non-EU citizen was rather easy as all the czech people now line up in front of the EU counters
(my girlfriend - with EU passport - though had to wait for another 15 minutes)
There wasn't that much time to kill so we opted for a short stroll through the airport. There isn't much to say about the airport, it's clean and looks like any other airport.... even though it seemed that it can hardly cope with the large number of pax that evening.
About 40 minutes prior to departure, our flight to Zurich was called at Gate B1. Security check was shared with a flight to Paris, supposed to leave 20 minutes earlier. Guess what - the chaos was perfect. It seemed that the staff was totally overloaded, we had to stand in line for a full 30 minutes just to pass the security. They made me start-up my Laptop, but apart from that there were no problems.
Another 15 minutes waiting until boarding.
Boarding was surprisingly easy and fast (at first). As you know, we were given seats 10B and 10C, which meant a aisle and a middle seat (I love it
Wow, those seats are relly uncomfortable! I felt like I fell into some kind of a sofa there, they were just too soft. I wouldn't wanna sit in there for more than 2 hours!
The flight was full of tourists, making trouble with their hand luggage - meaning that some of the FA
's looked rather stressed out after a couple of minutes! Anyway, guess what's next:
30 minutes waiting on board for other pax
After they finally arrived (the guy next to my girlfriend in 10A was telling us he waited at security check for another 30 minutes, apparently with 15 other people who did not make it on the flight) we were ready to taxi all the way to Zurich..... we must have travelled to the very other end of the airport.
Take-off was behind a Speedbird 767 - very smooth and WOW what a climb! Afer 10 minutes into the flight we were served a drink and a sandwich (salami or cheese). The food was very tasty, but a bit too small for me!
The captain announced that the flight to ZRH
would only take 50 minutes due to winds. I wouldn't have called it winds, but rather turbulence... very bumpy flight indeed.
A bit delayed we descended into ZRH
's RWY 28. Touch down was rather late so I was already telling my girlfriend to expect a rather hard breaking. However, the pilots didn't really bother to use the brakes until RWY 16 came into sight - that's probably when they realized it would be a good thing to turn right there to catch a short way to Terminal E....LOL... Breaking was then indeed very hard!
Disembarkemnt was very fast - downstairs to Unique's Skytrain which was totally overcrowded and on to baggage claims and off we were to our appartment.
Overall a very nice flight and a chaotic memory of PRG
Hope you enjoyed the (probably also chaotic) trip report!
: Upon arrival I realized a HUGE line at the Star Alliance Lost Baggage Desk...anyone knows what happend there?
