ATL-CVG-JAX

Sat Jun 19, 2004 2:13 am

First off, Ill warn you this occured in April so everthing is a bit fuzzy. Anyways, being a poor college student, money is important and you gotta be a consumer shopper. By this I mean, I cant blow my money over the weekend. The usual fares home from ATL to JAX are usual in the $125-150 range but during easter I was looking at a $300 fare which was a bit pricy. Found out that I could fly home for $240 if I went through CVG. Thought "hey, little bit out of the way but ahh what the heck." A solid $60 is alot because all year, I never took out more than $40 at a time at the ATM. That $60 could be spent elsewhere in Athens (if youve been there you know).

Md-80

I arrived after school and skipping my econ class about 3 hours early. Figured I would wonder for a while and I had my customary "fly home and eat chinese food in ATL airport" meal. It was fantastic might I add. As I walked to my gate in the south end of concourse A, I saw a 767 bound for JAX which would have been nice, a 737 to SAV and a 737 to Agusta for the masters that weekend.

I had a nice window seat and I like the md-80. Its got a good look in my opinion. Like a model. Thin. We took off from 9R and passed over my car which I left in the parking spot which is a nice joint for $7 a day. We had a pretty routine flight with a lite chop in CVG but nothing to write home about. We landed from the north I believe with the airport to our left.

For around 8, the airport was not very busy, especially compared to ATL. I decided to wonder, and of course I saw a md-80 beginging to board to JAX. I looked at my tix, I still had 4 hours. IMO, little too much layover in CVG which I willd take into account next time. I spotted a brooks brothers store which has great clothes but again, money, cant be spending precious greenbacks. Gotta save... gotta save. So I dcided to check out the C concourse where comair is. Figured I could see a bunch of CRJ's but no. There are no... none...0 windows in that concourse. Its a nice concourse, but its like a ritzy bus station. Nothing to see. So I headed back to B where I saw some 757 and md-80s going to San Fran or something.

By this time, the janitors were turning lights off where I was sitting. In fact I started getting nervous because I had been flying a CRJ on my laptop to kill time and I started thinking... "Maybe, in light of the recent suspicion in air security and such, maybe this is not the best thing to be doing before I fly a CRJ to JAX". So I turned it off and headed back to the crowded C terminal which again is nice, just no windows. Spent the next 2.5 hours reading about poker tells in my book.

crj 200

This is one of the last to depart from cvg and I enjoyed walking down the finger to the aircraft. I like being right there near the plane. Saw a crj 700 which looked nice. Sat down in the exit row window seet I had picked out in ATL. The best part of this flight was the FA. I believe her name was Aimme or Erica or Ally... whatever, she was gorgeous. And very courteous but thats not a big deal. HOT. Couldnt have been more than two years older than I. Would have been nice to talk to her but we had to depart. For a 2 hour ride down to JAX, it wasnt that bad at all. I enjoyed the little bird as we departed to the west and turned towards jax. The flight was nice and the arrival was very interesting as it ran very close to runway 25 and then made a u-turn to land. Of course, in JAX there is no traffic at 1 am but Delta has a huge presence there. Every one of their gates was full of delta and comair aircraft and there was a MD-80 which goes to CVG at lie 6, parked out on the tarmac away from the gates. This means we had to park at the end of concourse B and walk to baggage claim. The airport was unusually crowded with aircraft but we were tha only crazy people walking around at this time.

I as usual, loved my delta experience. They have never let me down. But, for July 4th weekend ill be taking airtran back to athens to see people and I think I ll be flyign them for a while as they are usually cheaper and have an easier FF program for me to upgrade when I fly home from JAX.

Great Job DL, and good luck!

Pretty good stuff, fellow Athenian!

I agree with you on choosing Airtran over Delta with Airtran's FF program being based on segments and Delta's on miles.
