After a days worth of photography at LHR then a crazy night at the Renaissance with Chris78cpr (Sharpy) it was time to depart to MAN for the Airliners.net Manchester Meeting!

We got up at 5 a.m. I was awoken with a text from fellow forum user EZYAirbus (Glenn) saying he was at LHR and to meet him past security. He was with Pilot_Kaz (Kas) waiting for their flight to MAN on (ahem) BD.

I stumbled to the bathroom and jumped in the shower. We checked out of our hotel and grabbed the very busy 285 bus to LHR Central Bus Station. We proceeded towards T1 where along the long walkways which just get on your tits after walking them so many times!

We went to the BA check-in desk and checked in. We had already pre-assigned our seats so there were no problems on that front! We had seats 22A and 23A. Here is my boarding stub for the flight today.

Seat 23A on BA1384 LHR-MAN.

We dumped our luggage there and proceeded through security when I received a text from Airplanepics. I rang him back and told him our status. He was waiting at gate 8 for his BD flight to MAN also. Then I realised Airplanepics (Simon) and Mikec (Mike) were on the same flight as EZYAirbus (Glenn) and Pilot_Kaz (Kas)!  Smile As soon as we cleared security we met up with Kaz and EZY.

We went over to the Tax Free shopping and looked for some spirits for the evening. Seems so I had run out of aftershave I went to the perfume shop and sprayed myself with some fragrances. I opted to use some CK One, job done.  Big thumbs up

We followed the two nutters to Gate 8 where we saw Mikec and Airplanepics. We shouted over at them as they boarded.  Smile

Chris and I headed over to Costa Coffee where I grabbed some Coffee. We hung around the BMI area and shot some aircraft that taxied past etc. We then got bored so we headed over to gate 5 where our flight was boarding!

We joined the queue at gate 5A to be greeted by BA 757 G-BPEE! At least it was a 757 as expected! We gradually made our way to the gate agent and passed over our boarding passes. She said thanks and handed me my stub.  Smile

We walked down (yet another) walkway to the aircraft where you could hear the APU buzzing away. I love this sound and the build up of the excitement as you walk to board the aircraft! We were greeted by smiling F/A's. I presented my boarding stub and she said thanks!

From what I have heard about the 757, it is pretty long. This was an understatement; this thing seemed to go on for ever! We eventually got to seats 22A and 23A where we sat down and admired the leather seats and great wing view!

Fantastic cabin on the 757. Flight only just starting to get busier, it never filled though!

Fantastic view here. Can't believe how tall this thing is! NB: Was taken from the other side to where we were sitting due to stupid sun!  Big grin

Our captain came on the P/A, to my shock it was a female! This would be my first flight with a female captain!  Smile She informed us that we would be pushing back shortly and wished us a comfortable flight. At this point everyone looked at each other, including me and Chris! It was quite a concept to grasp, but there again it makes no difference as this woman will be trained to the highest possible standards!

We pushed back at 07:43 a.m. The engines were then started. They produced quite a roar which is what I like to hear! Quite a pleasant sound seems so my last 5 flights had been with Airbus Aircraft!

Pushing back for departure. Height of this plane quite apparent!

We taxied out to 27R which took all of 5 minutes! We had to hold due to a CSA 737 (OK-BGQ) and a BA A320 (G-EUUG) to take off then it was our turn to speed down the runway! We turned and lined up for 27R. This was the moment I have been waiting for! We didn't stop we rolled and rolled then BOOM the throttle was increased.

The 757 is very powerful indeed! As much as I expected too! I just wanted to go faster and faster!  Laugh out loud We rotated very very quickly. It took about a 50 seconds in total from turning for departure to being this far in the air!

We climbed and leveled off to about 5,000ft and cruised up there for about 5 minutes. We then climbed to 24,000ft.

Climbing for our initial altitude of 5,000ft.

The F/A's were coming round with the food at this point. I was glad to see it was the breakfast too! (A few drinks at the hotel room the night before!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy) We had a Bacon and Scrambled Egg Ciabatta bread thing, washed down with Coffee and Orange Juice.

Breakfast was served!

Coffee and OJ to go with the tasty breakfast!

We were about 20 minutes into our flight so I thought it was time to use the little boy's room. As a joke, which some of you may find quite funny, I took my camera in with me! Interesting colour they chose for the seats to be huh?!

Nice one!  Big thumbs up

Anyway, it was a pretty uneventful flight so far as these routes tend to be short and sweet. I sat back down and spoke to this weird chap in 22A called Chris!  Wink/being sarcastic It was then announced that we are ten minutes from landing. The weather in Manchester was shit and it had just started to rain there!

As you can see the weather was good!

This was not going to be a good weekend I felt. Defeats the object of flying somewhere to do some photography really!? So I buckled up and drank my coffee. They came around with the bins and I gave them my rubbish!

On approach the weather became quite apparent. Clouds, more clouds and some rain.  Sad I thought to myself, it'll be alright. There wasn't much to see on approach so I just sat there taking pics of clouds and condensation!

Making a turn and you can see a little bit of clear sky!

Good bit of detail seen here.

We were jumping through the clouds and condensation was in view the whole time! The flap settings were set on full I think! Check this out:

We floated for a bit and then eventually touched down on 24R. The effects created were quite special I feel. This was another good flight with BA for myself. Well done guys, you impress me everytime!

Full flap and spoilers deployed as we make a halt on 24R.

Now I am saving the best part to last, as we were walking off the Captain was stood there and we asked if it was possible to have a look up front! She said yeah no problems. I explained to her that this was my first 757 flight and she agreed with me that it was a nice aircraft to fly.

My jaw dropped a little as I walked up to the front office. I notice the co-pilot was sat there, doing some notes. I said hello, and he said hi. I said good flight today, he agreed. First of many for him today apparently! Not only that, this guy lived about 10 minutes from me back in little old SOU! Anyway check out the cockpit:

Nice office!  Big thumbs up

That concludes my trip up to Manchester for the A.net Mega MAN Meet which was an absolute blast! Cheers to everyone who turned up, great seeing you all!

I hope you all enjoyed my report on BA, stay tuned for part two!

Thanks for reading,

Justin  Big thumbs up

A simple and short but nevertheless very nice and readable trip report! I enjoyed that, save for two - probably totally innocent - remarks:

'He [Glen] was with Pilot_Kaz (Kas) waiting for their flight to MAN on (ahem) BD.'

'Everyone looked at each other, including me and Chris! It was quite a concept to grasp [that the capitan was female].' I wonder, are you surprised when there's a female bus driver?  Wink/being sarcastic

 Laugh out loud

By the way, how full (or empty) was the flight?

Good report Justin! The 757s are really nice aircraft to fly.

Why do your boarding passes show you in C class even though seats 23/24 are economy? Did you get ripped off on the fare that much?  Laugh out loud

If you think the 757-200 is long, you should fly a 757-300.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Great Report! I love the 757-200. It's a great aircraft, and she will be missed  Sad I loved the time I flew the 752, N950AT MDW-PHX.

Again, great report!

Very nice report, love the pics. Hope to see the 757s continuing their service at BA instead of being completely eradicated by the new 321s...

Nice report.
The 757s are indeed nice to fly on (got my first on June 28th on Excel Airways, with my first 757-300 in October on Thomas Cook  Smile/happy/getting dizzy ), and very powerful
