Beech 1900C To Kangaroo Island

Wed Aug 11, 2004 6:28 am

Great Western Aviation had a special for August 10, 2004 and there will be another day on August 18 2004 where flights in South Australia were A$25 one way. So I took advantage and got a cheap ride on a Beech 1900.
Since I was only going there and straight back, I got a phone call from Great Western the night before asking if I had made a mistake with my booking.
This is my first ride on a turboprop aircraft, and my first on a Beech 1900.

MT 409 Adelaide to Kingscote

Check in was smooth and quick and we were quickly escorted out to the plane. On the way to Kingscote the plane was full. Although the Beech 1900C you have to crouch to get inside, the seats were comfortable and leg room was good.
Was a bit noisy inside, but that is expected of turboprops.

MT 410 Kingscote to Adelaide

The time I was there were no other aircraft apart from ours at the airport. Flight back to Adelaide was uneventful. On the way back there were only about half a dozen on the plane.

The air and ground crews are very friendly. On the way back I was allowed to have a chat to the pilots during the flight.

If Great Western or any other airlines does a deal like that I am happy to go for a ride.

Hi Ryan,
interesting report.
I was on the same route years ago on a SF340 operated by Kendell on behalf of defunct Ansett Australia. The very best there was luggage handling: Self service!. And the Beech 1900: First time was on a AirFrance flight operated by Proteus from STR to LYS. No toilet on board. Prop flying is more real flying!
Greetings,

Nice report

I had a trip back from Kangaroo Island to Adelaide with Great Western last December - with only three pax flying. Due to a storm front passing by it was a pretty bumpy ride which I really enjoyed, that's real flying  Nuts

Ok, First I want to say. Great Trip Report

Secondly, I want to say. If I had to sit in the middle seat in the very back, I would officially call that "Hell"

Although, what would it be like to sit in that seat is what I have wondered.

Yes, Ryan, it was on VH-FWA. My trip was on very short notice as I was supposed to use the evening ferry to the mainland. Instead of having an quite bumpy ferry ride I decided to use Great Western  Laugh out loud
