Airbus A320-232 - "Mi Blu Corazon"
My friend and I arrived at JFK Terminal 6 about one hour before our scheduled departure to San Juan. Check in was a breeze. We had no bags to check. We immediately proceeded to what turned out to be very tight security crossing into the main departure area of the former TWA Terminal which looks dismal, dingy, dirty, and unfit for a world class airline like JetBlue (This was my first JetBlue experience). Following security, we grabbed some food from one of the delis near the gates and soon boarded our plane, which was delivered to JetBlue in June 2004. It smelled new. It was clean, bright, airy, and very comfortable. We took our seats in the exit row. Boarding was efficient and quick. The flight was nearly full, just 4 or 5 open seats. Push back was one minute late, the Direct TV kicked in, and we taxied past four other B6 aircraft, parked alongside the former TWA Terminal 5, which looks so sad, without its gates, and those TWA 747, L1011, and 767's once bound for Europe. No more. Taxi was quick and we lined up behind a BA 747-400 (BA 178) bound for Heathrow and in front of an AA A300-600. Take off was fast and powerful and very smooth. Rising above the new Terminal 4, where we could see an AirJamaica A340, America West A319, Northwest 747-400 in new colors, and one El Al aircraft, a 777. We climbed into the hazy New York sun and headed south for our 3 hour 19 minute flight to San Juan.
About one hour into the flight, the DirectTV disconnected and the Fox Movies came on. We had a choice of four. I watched The Sound of Music on and off until landing time. Beverages were served first. Then the snack basket. The cabin crew were professional but not overly friendly. The main flight attendant doing the announcements spoke to fast, mumbled, and was somewhat irritating.
Approach into Luis Munoz Marin International Airport was quick and smooth. We landed quickly and taxied past an American Airlines 757 and taxied to Gate 22, next to a Copa Airlines 737-700 with winglets. The cabin filled with cool air smoke from the condensation of the air conditioning and the hot, humid air outside, which was cool to see.
Overall, the flight was extremely pleasant. Good legroom, clean plane, smooth flight, efficient and fast service.
I'll post my return flight shortly, which was on Estrella Azul. Excellent flight too!
